Diana Duyser burned her grilled cheese sandwich 10 years ago. But she thought the result looked like the Virgin Mary so she put it in a plastic box, “nestled it among cotton balls and kept it on a shelf” and over the years it didn’t, “fall apart or crumble or anything”.
So she decided to auction it on eBay with a starting price of $3,000.
And it netted her $28,000 !!!
Well, it’s happened again.
Kind of.
What does the cornflake on the right look like to you? A cornflake, maybe?
Not according to Melissa McIntire, 23, and her sister Emily, 15. To them it looks like Illinois and based on that, last night, they scooped a cool $1,350 from a flaky eBay auction.
The McIntires listed the corn lake on eBay last week, “but eBay canceled the auction saying it violated the Web site’s food policy,” says the Associated Press. “The sisters restarted their Ebay auction, advertising a coupon redeemable for their corn flake, instead of the cereal itself.”
Predictably, copycat items have popped up on eBay, “including corn flakes shaped like Hawaii and Virginia,” says AP, continuing:
“There’s also been a potato chip shaped like Florida, and Illinois corn flake paraphernalia, including T-shirts and buttons.”
What’s that they say about fools and their money?
Oh Yeh. The new, and happy, owner of the McIntire cornflake is one Monty Kerr of Austin, Texas.
“We’re starting a collection of pop culture and Americana items,” AP has him saying. “We thought this was a fantastic one.”
