RIAA VP and Ray Beckerman on P2P panel
p2pnet news | P2P:- Should new limits be placed upon statutory damages?
And, Did the supporters of P2P software and the individual defendants miscalculate the reaction of juries?
Interesting questions, and they’ll be the topic of what’s certain to be an equally interesting discussion at New York’s Fordham University Law School on March 28.
That’s the location and date of the two-day 16th Annual Intellectual Property Law & Policy conference during which Kenneth Doroshow, RIAA senior VP of litigation and legal affairs, will address the subject of copyright statutory damages.
Recording Industry vs The People‘s Ray Beckerman will be a member of the panel, together with: professors Peter Black, Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, and Pamela Samuelson, University of California, Berkeley; and, Ted Shapiro, deputy managing director, VP & general counsel, Europe, MPA (read Hollywood’s MPAA – Motion Picture Association of America).
Beckerman will also be on panels focusing on the “making available” concept and the role privacy rights should play in proceedings to obtain disclosure of subscriber identities from ISPs for P2P cases.
‘Why the U.S. Should Look in the Mirror ….’
Of special interest to Canadians, well-known Ottawa copyright lawyer Howard Knopf will talk on how Canadian copyright law is already Stronger and Better than US law, and “Why the U.S. Should Look in the Mirror Rather than at its ‘Special 301′ Watch List”.
Richard Pfohl, general counsel to the CRIA (Canadian Recording Industry Association of America), will be a panelist.
It’s not expected that he’ll address the CRIA’s recent, and extremely embarrassing, Audiomaxxx disaster in which the CRIA was forced to issue a public retraction and apology after crowing loudly about a major bust in Winnipeg.
But you never know …….
Stay tuned.
