Japan targets Winny users

p2pnet news MPAA | RIAA News:- Hollywood and the Big 4 record labels have ramped up pressure on Japan.

Now, bowing unashamedly to entertainment cartels demands, the country says it’s not only considering forcing ISPs to reveal the names of people who’ve used P2P applications, with Winny specifically named, to, “illegally exchange copyrighted movies and music,” but also to establish a system to, “make it easier for copyright associations to demand compensation from violators”.

The proposals come in a report from an advisory panel to the National Police Agency on, “copyright violation issues concerning the person-to-person file sharing software Winny,” says the Yomiuri Shimbun.

“In response to the report, Internet industry groups plan to start discussions with copyright associations regarding guidelines on disclosure of violators’ identities,” says the story, going on:

“Ahead of the release of the panel’s latest report, the providers and copyright groups agreed to withdraw Internet services from copyright violators.”

Japanese ISPs at the moment are required by law to, “protect the confidentiality of communications in line with the Constitution,” says the story.

However, “the law stipulating the responsibilities of the providers allows them to disclose a person’s identity in cases where that person has clearly violated other people’s rights,” says the Yomiuri Shimbun.

But no “specific rule” concerning the disclosure of identities has been implemented, “so the identities of those who infringed copyrights using Winny and other so-called P2P file-sharing software have rarely been disclosed,” it adds.

    Word Press keeps saying:

Duplicate comment detected; it looks as though you’ve already said that!

When in fact the comments never appeared after they were apparently entered successfully.

    Please fix.

^^ Do you have any strange characters in the head or text? My daughter, Emma, had the same problem yesterday. She signs herself 3mm@ and that’s what was blocking her.

I’d look through the spams to try to find your comment but since there are currently almost 3,000 of them I don’t have the time :)

    Cheers!
    Jon

No, no special charactes are used.
I have been having the problem for a few days.

An observation is that the problem is more severe when using Opera, as compared with Firefox.

With Firefox, sometime the post gets through when the name and websites are removed.

    Good luck, Jon

I’ve run into this problem several times in the past too. Usually I don’t leave comments with unusual characters either.
