I enjoy April Fool pranks, but I don’t think it’s part of the game to draw attention to the date, and claim the story is not a spoof. At that point it ceases to be a joke, and becomes a breach of trust.

Unfortunately, in the US at least, you have to have a whole shitload of
cash, even if they are obviously in the wrong.
The law is for them, not us.
