I made a gadget & wired it up to the classroom door handle after I got kicked out of religious education; knocked on the door & when it swung open the startled looking teacher had the hairs on her arms standing upright. When she dragged me to the deputy head he was obviously struggling to suppress laughter as he did his duty in solemnly reprimanding me. It was the 1970s & no one had heard of tasers where I lived.

I did this years ago when i was in school. but it was a very low voltage and was very small you would toss it to some one and when they cought it they got a nasty little shock. i got it taken away and that was it. this just shows that we live in different times now thats all.

wow...im building a taser right now for my engineering class....yeah 1500 volts is nothing.and you dont necessarily need capacitors to hold up the charge like someone else said above...a dc-ac converter with a voltage multiplier uses caps, but you could just as easily(actually probably more easily) use a transformer(and like a 555 or any other means of going dc-ac of course). ---and you dont have to *store up* charge...u can up the voltage as much as you want as long as you drop the current. a nine volt battery has 15 amps...but step that up to like 15000 volts and you have a minuscule amount of current. couple transistors a battery and a transformers all you need...probly a few resistors...AND a legit reason to do it.

lol, i made one from a camera once too, actually a couple times, took it to school, techers didnt realize what was goin on with people passing a capacitor around, it wasn't till they found burn marks on one kids hand did they clue in, hahahaha
gooood times!

We used to shock ourselves for fun and games in Electronics class back in high school. We built a maze game based on this type of technology where if you "touched a wall" it would shock you. This was back in the 80s.

Seriously, 2nd law of thermodynamics. There is only as much energy as stored in the capacitor (if any)+transformer input. Basically, the total power output of a couple batteries over a few seconds. From what I have made(disposable camera flash unit), around ~300 volts and a couple hundred micro farads. Dangerous? I think not...

alright lisen i had to make a essay on this thing and it was about how tasers could effect pacemakers or the heart but i found out its not supposed to even effect the pacemakers and the cops are 50 000 volts with 8 AAs and mine was 1500 volts and 2 AAs and it says you get more of a shock getting out of your car sometimes or touching a doorhandle thats around 8000 to 10000 volts and thats not uncomon but i only had 1 day suspention and i ahd to write a page essay

I've seen homemade tasers. Their voltage is never really that high.

i wonder what would happen if a girl was caught with a taser. most likely they would have been let go.

Building a stun gun is childs play.
The only reason I haven't built one is that I don't need one, for I am DR ELECTRO!

I'm surprised more kids haven't been caught, outrage ensues and it becomes an imprisonable offence to build stuff with electronics or to mix things together that aren't for cooking/eating/drinking. It's the only way to stop the terror!
