Virginia schools compulsory Net 101

p2pnet news | Crime:- Virginia has become is the first state to make it compulsory for public schools offer Net safety classes for all grades.
“In a recent presentation at a suburban Richmond high school, Virginia assistant attorney general Gene Fishel flashed an online social-networking profile a 15-year-old who says she enjoys being around boys and wants to meet new people,” says the Associated Press, going on:
“The real profile user turned out to be ‘hotlilflgirl,’ a 31-year-old man convicted of sexually abusing 11 children he met online and was sentenced to 45 years in prison.
Fishel’s presentation at the James River High School, “was one of many being held this school year in the state, the first to mandate that public schools offer Internet safety classes for all grade levels,” says the story.
“Nationally, Texas and Illinois are among states that have since passed their own Internet safety education laws, but unlike Virginia they don’t make the courses mandatory.”
Other states are considering similar legislation, the story has Judi Westberg Warren, president of Web Wise Kids, saying..
A 2006 study by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children found about 13% of Net users ages 10 to 17, “had received unwanted sexual solicitations,” says AP, adding:
“Four percent of those youths reported being asked for nude or sexually explicit photographs of themselves.”
