A great win.
Strangely enough MediaSentry does not hold a license in New Zealand.
That would mean their committing a crime that spans countries. (Well they were committing a crime anyway.)
Reckon we should try to extradite them?

The penalties are so trivial as to be unworthy of attention. However it could lead to worse things I guess if they ignored it. BTW I'm glad the original was worded far better than the copy shown! :)

Mediasentry and owner/partner concerns have dodged the license for official PI agency status because they would FAIL if they filed with truthful business information and individuals credentials within that business. It is such a piffle annual fee that no other explanation can be forthcoming. Unless they are just greedy to the lengths of stupidity.

For example: (Louisiana)

http://www.lsbpie.com/license.html

In Europe there is no way a company like Mediasentry can operate the way they have got away with so far. Although spoofing may not be illegal, it is certainly entrapment at any level and it is not legal to get personal details from an ISP without a Judge dispensing a warrant to retrieve that info.

Unless sweeping (and underhand) laws are suddenly put in place in Europe/UK that throw away the need for court warrants and accept dodgy evidence from dodgy sources as a reason to seek such information, the big 4 can sod off and let some common sense back in from the cold..

I think the problem isn't so much with the gathering of evidence as it is with the presenting of evidence, how it was obtained, and when the necessary bonding required to preform these actions. Do understand, IMNAL and there are those present who could present a better and clearer picture of this.

I'm confused; Does MediaSentry actually operate in each state, or is it considered to be operating in a state if they merely gather evidence FROM that state? In other words, if MediaSentry is based in a state like California and they collect information on a user in New York, are they considered to be "operating" in New York?
