Use PayPal and ONLY PayPal, eBay orders Aussies

p2pnet news | Products:- It’s our way, or no way, says eBay.
Showing Australians who’s boss, You WILL use PayPal and ONLY PayPal,’ it’s ordering them.
PayPal is, of course, owned by eBay.
“Once again the average person is screwed by a greedy giant that we helped create,” says littleripper22 on the Australia forums.
“It’s looking like if you won’t be be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, and briefed, then ebay is not an option,” says j*oono.
However, whether customers like it or not, Australian direct deposits, personal cheques and money orders will no longer be payment options from June 17, says Australian IT, observing:
“This is the first time these restrictions will be imposed by eBay anywhere in the world and could be enforced in other markets in the future.”
Buyers will have to pay for items via PayPal, cash-on-delivery or Visa and MasterCard debit and credit cards, “but these transactions would be processed by PayPal as well,” says the story.
PayPal takes direct deposit or credit card payments on behalf of eBay sellers for between 1.1 and 2.4%.
eBay, “defended the change, saying buyers were more likely to have problems with ‘offline’ payment options such as direct deposit,” says the Sydney Morning Herald.
eBay trust and safety director Alastair MacGibbon, “acknowledged that some buyers would be upset by the change, but believed most would benefit from the increased level of security,” says the story.
“Some people will take some time to accept the change,” it has him stating, adding:
“EBay will make every effort to educate people about why this is for their safety and why it will increase confidence in shopping on eBay.”
Corporate entertainment cartel customer education includes suing people until they see the light.

This is awful. PayPal has already gotten away with emptying out people’s bank accounts on the basis of no evidence against the seller whatsoever, suspending accounts without reason, and many more things. But with this latest twist, eBay could push itself out of the market if they don’t give the seller and buyer enough options.
I still use PayPal. But sometimes when I login, they insist I give them a bank account number before I can continue. WHAT bank account number? So I do all my PayPal business without logging in. Is that benefiting from the increased level of security? No.

I pay for my ebay purchases with paypal and will continue to do so until my spending limit is reached. When that happens, I will cancel my paypal account. I see no reason why i should be forced to give up my banking information just because paypal wants it. I WILL NOT DO IT!

Given the BIG BROTHER nature of Ebay I am afraid to put my whole name to this. I think what Ebay is doing is outrageous - the sort of bullying and restrictive behaviour that Stalin would be proud of.———
