p2pnet: time for a change
p2pnet.net News:- p2pnet.net went online in August, 2002. It was the first Internet web page to carry daily, frequently updated news stories, features and commentaries discussing developments in the p2p and digital media arenas, with special emphasis on file sharing.
We’ve been running on a Bytemark Virtual Machine Linux server, based on User-Mode Linux technology for quite some time, and it’s been smooth sailing all the way. However, things are getting pretty busy and it was obviously time for an upgrade. So Bytemark’s owners, Linux experts Matthew Bloch and Peter Taphouse, over in the UK, decided p2pet should have a dedicated server.
“While the virtual server handled the traffic without a hitch when p2pnet first went online, with its increased traffic, the amount of memory needed to keep things flowing smoothly meant moving it to its own server,” says Taphouse.
Consequently, p2pnet has just gone online with the new machine and, “is ready to handle any onslaught visitors the likes of Google and Slashdot are liable to throw at it,” promises Bloch.
Thanks, Matthew and Peter. It’s nice being able to rely people who aren’t just fat-cat suits sitting in a distant office with no interest whatsoever in what happens to their customers.

New site
This is also a good time to say Thuan Huynh, p2pnet’s man in France, has been working hard on a new web design and things are looking really interesting.
The present two column design with uncategorized headers will go. In its place will appear a totally new look (including the new logo you see here)
The index columns will be replaced with sections – News, Applications, Hardware and Software, Interviews and Readers’ Writes (submissions), all of which will be accessed from front page menu bars. We’re also pondering a couple of other features, one of which will probably go up in advance of the new design.
We will, though, continue to have the main headlines for each section on the front page and if all goes well, we’ll be making the change sometime within the next four to six weeks.
Cheers! And all the best …
The p2pnet team

Suggestion: The option to expand/view all comments to a story. It’s hard to keep the thread coherent when you have to open each comment. Keep up the great coverage!
