Microsoft tightens its belt
p2pnet.net News:- Microsoft has apparently told staff it’s cutting their stock discounts, prescription drug payments and parental leave.
The object is to save $80 million towards the $1 billion it plans to ‘trim’ from its cost structure this year, says a Reuters story here.
Microsoft has somewhere between $50 and $60 (or even more) billion salted away, depending on who you listen to, and Bill Gates is supposed to personally be worth, well, lots, although tragically, Ikea’s Ingvar Kamprad appears to have usurped Bill as the World’s Richest Man.
Anyway, back at the corral, "Nearly three-quarters of some 3,000 Microsoft Corp. employees told the world’s largest software maker that they were ‘very dissatisfied’ with [the] recently announced cuts," Reuters says, going on to quote Marcus Courtney, an organizer at WashTech, which is trying to unionize workers at Microsoft, as saying:
"It’s a turning point in labor-management relations at the company."
