You can safely start posting comments of any length, again.
And the problem we’ve been having was all my fault.
Bob Bryant tracked it down to the huge WordPress comment blacklist I’d compiled.
The spam kill list is at 399,306 as I write this, and that’s the spam recognised and blocked by Akismet.
But every day, a lot of hand-deilvered stuff arrives which I’ve been deleting by hand, building the blacklist as I went.
My mistake was to include stuff Akismet would recognise and, consequently, stop.
However, as Bob put it, “You had little three-character strings in there such as ‘aud’ - that would match something like ‘audible’ - and if it found any of the 1000+ things in the list, it’d flag it as spam.”
Now you know.
So from now on, I’ll be a hell of a lot more careful.
Sorry, folks. But at least it’s been sorted.
