Net neutrality rally now May 15

p2pnet news | Freedom:- “Canada’s traffic shaping / net neutrality battle is moving to the streets —- or, at least, to Parliament Hill in Ottawa,” p2pnet posted yesterday, going on:

“Rocky Gaudrault, co-owner of Teksavvy, the Ontario ISP that’s up front in the fight to make Canadians understand the bandwidth throttling issue centres as much on, ‘privacy, choice and ISP transparency,” as anything else, is organising an event on the Hill for April 29′.”

The rally is still on but because of red tape, it’s now been switched to May 15.

The previous date was a little on the sudden side and the new heads-up will mean a better turn out.

“It’s a certainty industry minister Jim Prentice, if not prime minister Stephen Harper, will be there, providing concerned citizens with an opportunity to reprise the political disaster visited on Prentice last year when he tried to force a Canadian DMCA through Parliament,” we said yesterday, adding >>>

Then, a group organised by ‘Ideas Revolutionary’ Kempton Lam confronted Prentice in Calgary, Alberta, “forcing the government to step sharply back,” p2pnet posted.

The industry minister has so far refused to get involved, saying it’s up to Canadians themselves to do something about the throttling scandal.

A strong showing in Ottawa on April 29 could force him to once again do an about face.

The date has changed, but that hasn’t.

“One major thing to consider is much of this battle has been confused by the word ‘Internet’,” said Gaudrault.

“Bell isn’t selling ISPs internet, they’re selling ISPs a regulated back-end connection.”

The time of day hasn’t been set yet, but it’s likely to be late morning, we understand.

“This will be for net neutrality, which will bring the Bell topic in, but will have a much larger goal,” he told p2pnet.

“Net neutrality hits a public nerve.  But it’s not really a stand-alone.  There are many overlapping issues here.  I’ve mentioned privacy, choice and ISP transparency, but there are many other aspects.”

If Bell or Rogers was tapping our phone lines shouldn’t they be charged with a crime, and how in the hell can they be trusted with voip and iptv data streams if its their competition and they make millions of dollars from selling similar or same services to control it, it would be like hiring mangers who work for walmart to manage zellers. Their is a major shift in technology for phone and tv and these companies have a big portion of their infrastructure built on these models which will be irrelevant soon, soon as they build fiber network to our door which will be in a 100 years if they have their way. There is lot at risk here and I think bell and Rogers are hoping will miss it, you cannot give these companies that much control they will benefit and will suffer for it. For the people by the people, it should be government run or heavy regulated. Lets get a list going of all things at stake and send them to CRTC.

I disagree with Bell and Rogers completely. They are only out there to make money, and their managers make enough that they don’t care about the future, they care only about how much their bonus is impacted at the end of the year. The future is here, embrace it. Don’t impede it. Who are you to limit our development as a race? Who are you to stop innovation, and advancement. The internet is here, audio and video are available on the net, High Definition Video is here, this means larger files (DUH!!!). Get with the program or get out. If you want to live in the past, then go bury yourself in a dark corner somewhere. Grow up, give us the freedom to expand and advance. This should NOT be something in your control, this should be a human right, a freedom we all can share. If you think you are smarter than everyone else, then go ahead and try and stop people from file sharing. In the end, it will cost you a lot of money, it will cost the end users a lot of money because of your stupid errors in judgement, and people who want to file share will just continue on because they can always find better and faster ways to share. It’s a losing battle because you are too pig headed to realize that YOU DON’T EMPLOY THE SMARTEST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD. There will always be someone out there smarter than the group you have. I’m sorry but this is true, but go ahead, continue on in your ridiculously stupid decisions that cost us all in the end. OR “Stop whining, Stop trying to hinder it, this is the future, EMBRACE IT”
