Hollywood and Jackie Chan in, ‘IP Day’

p2pnet news | Freedom:-  Action star Jackie Chan has the lead role  in Hollywood’s latest farce, ‘World Intellectual Property Day’.

You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll throw up.

It’s another fake thingie dreamed up by Time Warner, Viacom, Fox, Sony, NBC Universal and Disney’s MPAA.

“Remember the ludicrous Hong Kong scouts and IP merit patch story?” – p2pnet posted almost exactly two years ago, going on >>>

You know, where the Big Six movie studios promote Intellectual Property scout badges?

It’s getting worse. Much worse.

“In order to promote respect of intellectual property rights (IPRs) and the World Intellectual Property Day, set on April 26 annually, the Intellectual Property Department and the Hong Kong Scout Association (HKSA) today (April 23) held the ‘Respect for Intellectual Property Rights Fun Fair’ at Kowloon Park Piazza,” says a Hong Kong government press statement.

Behind the astonishing scam are Time Warner, Viacom, Fox, Sony, NBC Universal and Disney who talked the Hong Kong government into promoting a scouting copyright merit badge.

They used their MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) clone, the MPA (Motion Picture Association), as a front.

Now the Motion Picture Association (MPA – read MPAA) says it’s spawned an anti-piracy trailer to coincide with its World Intellectual Property Day on April 26.

“The trailer will be shown before theatrical showings of the new Jackie Chan – Jet Li blockbuster The Forbidden Kingdom in movie theaters throughout China, it says.

For those of you who enjoy spoofing corporate propaganda flicks, it’s at http://www.mpa-i.org.

Meanwhile, “World IP day is a WIPO initiative and has been celebrated annually on April 26 since its inception [by Hollywood] in 2001. The day is primarily a chance to reflect on the importance of [discouraging] human innovation and the [un]important role that IP plays in our [Time Warner, Viacom, Fox, Sony, NBC Universal and Disney , that is] daily lives.

Hysterical :)

Do they actually believe anyone (apart from the cany folks who are paid huge sums to produce the this bilge) pays attention?

They must do. They spend a lot of money on it.

Oh well ……

;)

The irony is that people watching the cam version of the forbidden kingdom aren’t subjected to this copyright propaganda :)
If you want to watch the propaganda free version. [Link deleted - Jon]

Should you be posting the URL here? The p2pnet site owner can get in trouble for that probably.

pls be more responsible in your postings.

Considering no content is hosted on this website, or on surfthechannel.com, I highly doubt that. That’s like saying, it’s illegal to link to a link.
Please be less reactionary next time.

It’s actually hosted in china, which doesn’t bend to the will of the MPAA. It’s ironic how a country can be politically oppressive and at the same time, socially enlightened.

Thanks for the thought, but I’m currently being sued for linking to a link, and it hasn’t been resolved yet. I still do it, of course, as does everyone else online. I also have another case pending, and one in the wings, and I don’t have the legal or financial resources to properly deal with those either, so contesting a new case is something I really don’t need to be doing right now. ;)

    Sorry.

    Cheers!

  7. Rekrul Says:

I celebrated IP Day by downloading the latest episode of Doctor Who from the newsgroups. :)

Oh, forgot to say; Good luck with the legal cases, Jon!

  9. Reader's Write Says:

The ironic part of this is that jackie chan refused to ever play the role of a villain, yet here he is in this hollywood fecal storm of an ad.

  10. Reader's Write Says:

I celebrated by sharing my huge mp3 collection with a friend. I know, not movies, but maybe next year.

  11. Reader's Write Says:

In 2015 I will celebrate IP day by giving away 20TB memory sticks with my favorite 5,000 movies and 10,000 songs, made in China.

  12. Fakie Says:

If the holiday doesn’t inspire a kegger its not worth celebrating. Just my thoughts.
