RIAA extortion center: Holme Roberts & Owen?

p2pnet news | RIAA News:- “A long-time p2pnet reader and computer programmer says he’s 99.9% certain he’s unearthed the name of the company that may be running the RIAA’s so called ‘Settlement Center’,” p2pnet said at the beginning of the month

“Hi Jon,” he said. ” I’ve been doing a little internet research and I believe I’ve located the RIAA’s extortion centers. “It looks to me like they’re run by a company called P S C Group, LLC.”

Said a Reader’s Write >>>

They are in Schaumburg, the info is correct. They are an IT Consulting firm. They do VOIP solutions as one of their practices and the RIAA is nothing more then a VOIP customer they support. PSC has no ties other then a VOIP system to the RIAA. PSC most likely designed the VOIP system for them. The other company SRI was in the same building but moved and it is a different company. PSC has been around since 1990 and does mostly application development.

However, “Who is behind the RIAA’s collections efforts?” - asks a Slashdot post, reviving the question and going on, ” This comment at CallFerret says it is a company called PSC and lists a bunch of websites and contact information for them, but the connection to RIAA is still not completely clear (aside from the presence of a couple of clearly RIAA sites on the same server as PSC’s). Anyone know anything more about who is doing RIAA’s dirty work?”

A link in the CallFerret post points to a post which among other things has SeanTR saying yesterday >>>

I also got one of these “notice of copyright infringement” letters and receive a call practically every day from Caller ID PSC Group while I’m at work.

They never leave any messages.

What can I do?

These claims are bogus… I hardly listen to music at all, let alone download it off the internet.

Doesn’t matter, SeanTR. Ask Tanya Andersen. They’ll hound you anyway.

Then the post gets really interesting, continuing >>>

“PSC is Precision Systems Concepts ( chicago.bbb.org ) and is affiliated with Accertify LLC ( which started as Obexa LLC) and possibly SRI - Systems Research Inc,” it states, going on:

These companies handle fraudulent checks/credit card transactions and document processing. It is also being said that they simply supplied a VOIP system to RIAA and that’s why the connected information in the phone database.

However if you look at the old registration information for www.SettlementInformationLine.com the original SSC website, you’ll see that it was originally registered to

Bret Chapman
13200 Metcalf Ave Suite 100
Overland Park, Kansas 66213

which is the same address as PSC.

It is now registered to Holme Roberts & Owen LLP in Denver.

If they only sold VOIP access/equipment to RIAA, it seems strange they also registered the website, no?

Indeed. In fact, HR&O is the latest legal firm hired by the RIAA has its front outfit.

With Rich Gabriel as point man, the company took over from Shook Hardy & Bacon, p2pnet said in 2006, going on:

“It seems even S, H&B, who made their bones defending Big Tobacco, couldn’t stomach the music industry, or its RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America). The job of suing innocent men, women and children for the non-existent ‘crime’ of sharing music online, is now in the hands of Colorado’s Holme Roberts & Owen ….”

Interestinger and interestinger.

Suggestions that the extortion center is run by Gabriel shouldn’t necessarily be discounted.

You can Run, but you Can’t Hide —- them, not us.

One Response to “RIAA extortion center: Holme Roberts & Owen?”

  1. Reader's Write Says:

I know what I’d be doing if I didn’t follow Christian principles, and I live in another country and haven’t been threatened per se
