RIAA vs US Schools war heats up

p2pnet news | Freedom:- Slashdot has picked up on the “20-fold increase” in the number of takedown notices from the RIAA in the last ten days.
“Indiana University reports 80 notices a day, but they say their traffic hasn’t increased significantly over the same time period,” says Soulskill.
“It will be interesting to see if the affected schools join the legal battle against the RIAA, or cave under the increased pressure.”
That’s the key question.
Meanwhile, yesterday, “Clearly something has changed, and we don’t believe it’s a sudden massive spontaneous nationwide coast-to-coast spike in file-sharing activity,” Steve Worona, director of policy and networking programs and founding director of the Educause/Cornell Institute for computer policy and law, told p2pnet.
Schools reporting a marked increased in the number of DMCA notices fired at them include, in no particular order:
- Indiana University
- St. Cloud State
- University of Wisconsin-Madison
- University of Chicago
- George Washington University
- University of Cincinnati
- University of Louisville
- Northwestern University
- Middle Tennessee State University
- George Washington University
- University of Cincinnati
- University of Northern Iowa
- University of California, Riverside
- North Carolina State University
- University of Toledo
- CA Polytechnic State University
- University of Alaska - Anchorage
- Pennsylvania College of Technology
“A significant number of senior US school and universities are noticing ‘an enormous spike‘ in Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) notices,” p2pnet reported last month.
Did this mean students were ramping up their file sharing activities?
“No,” said a reliable source.
“There’s no identifiable spike in bandwidth usage at the campus level.”

Yes, let’s do our bit for the environment and recycle as toilet paper. This aptly represents the relevance of their content.

I agree with the idea of the previous comments…. gather all the notices together into major stacks and mail them back to the RIAA.
