Olympic torch blogger jailed

p2pnet news | P2P:- China boasts of how the Beijing Olympic Sacred Flame torch relay was able to pass safely through Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam without unseemly protests such as those seen in London, Paris and San Francisco.
But things mightn’t have gone so smoothly had not Nguyen Van Hai, a prominent online reporter who posts as Dieu Cay, and who’d been, “organising local bloggers to follow the torch” been thrown into jail.
Vietnam Law reported Ho Chi Minh City police arrested Nguyen Van Hai, a member of Union of Independent Journalists, on charges of tax evasion, says the Committee to Protect Bloggers, going on:
“The paper said police had searched Hai’s house Monday and found evidence that he and his ex-wife had understated their monthly rent to avoid paying the full value-added tax.
Nguyen Van Hai had blogged about protests against the torch in other cities around the world, “and others critical of China’s policies in Tibet and the Spratlys and opposing the torch’s relay through Vietnam,” says the story.

Yeah, it took a physical search to determine that paperwork was out of order, and officials were required to detain them, instead of mailing a notice.
Business as usual for governments of that caliber. This is why I still support the US support of South Viet Nam in the 60s and 70s, even though the US government “screwed the pooch” on it. The spirit of helping preserve a free society should always motivate people to action. I salute those brave men and women that served to promote freedom.
Sadly, it never quite works out the way you plan it.

As do I, but whatcha’ gunna’ do when people won’t even fight for their own freedom. That’s why they’re stuck with a piece of crap government.
