VoIP 911 ambulance sent to wrong address

p2pnet news | Off Topic:- Eighteen-18-month-old Elijah Luck died at his home in Calgary while his parents waited in vain for an ambulance to arrive after they’d made a 911 VoIP emergency call.

The ambulance was sent to their old address in Mississauga, a Toronto suburb, says the Toronto Sun.

“The former Mississauga family said they have documents showing they had informed the service provider of their current Calgary address,” says the story.

Comwave boss Yuval Barzakay said his company only had the family’s former Mississauga home, but, “Comwave billing invoices sent to the Lucks tell a different story,” it goes on.

“Two show a pair of addresses where the family lived after they moved to Calgary and an invoice dated March 30, 2008, shows the Lucks’ current residence.”

Now, “We’re looking to obtain at least the confirmation of the tape recording of the 911 call to make sure that the proper steps were followed. Until that happens, I’d like to keep all comments to myself at this point,” the CBC quotes CRTC (Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission) spokesman Paul Godin as stating.

According to CRTC rules, Net phone companies must explain to subscribers how the 911 service works when they sign up and remind them about it once a year, Godin said.

By the time paramedics arrived at the Luck home after a neighbour made a 911 from a land line, it was too late.
