When are you Canadians gong to wise up and realize that ANYTHING the US is trying to get you to do is not even remotely in your best interest? The RIAA malarkey and its brothers (MPAA, etc., etc.) are there purely to make a few people very rich, and the people being remunerated are not the talent who created the art. The Bush Government, being the open-minded bunch of %#@#@%$ they are, are only interested in preserving the profits of a few contributors, and as usual, to the detriment of everyone else. Europe and the EU are now the standard-makers for this type of thing. Stop acting like a bunch of bumpkins and turn to the people who act for the common good, not the (rich white) Republican good.

Question: Why are so many American performing artists selling their stuff exclusively through outlets like Starbuck's, Walmart, and Itunes? Because they like getting at least some of the profits for their own work. The RIAA represents the people who WERE getting those profits.

How does anyone know the letter of the current law in their own community? How can they know about it when it does change? Since most laws are ambiguous, any case outcome depends on a judge's interpretation of its grammar and intent, and any known regional precedents.

Lawyers are the only ones who are aware of these laws and have access to the books, so how can the public know what's going on or be expected to? We just do what we want or what we think we should do.

I feel that sharing copyrighted works are fine if they are already in public distribution and also because the RIAA says it's illegal and wrong, and we know that whatever they say is a lie.
