AP launches MNN for mobiles

p2pnet news | Advertising:- You already know about AP

Now meet MNN —- the ad-centric Mobile News Network.

The Associated Press and, “more than 100 of its member newspapers” today launched a news service for mobiles.

Good news for news junkies, but even better news for (you guessed it) advertisers.

Once upon a time, the Net was a primary source of information and data but, thanks to Google, Microsoft, Yahoo!, et al, these days now starting to look painfully like TV, that’s to say mind-numbing advertisements interspersed with brief flashes of content which, if NBC Universal has its “product-centered” way, will probably be equally mind-numbing.

“Paul Caluori, director of client content services for AP, said the service now has 107 newspapers participating, up from 18 at the time of the announcement,” says AP, going on, “Companies that help connect advertisers with networks of Web sites will be among the sellers of ads for the new service and will share revenues with the news providers.”

Loooking at the AP headline (see below), one could be forgiven it’s all about Ap and iPhone.

AP also says it’s a not-for-profit news cooperative. ;)
