BBC Freesat live today

p2pnet news | TV:- In March, 2007, the BBC Trust provisionally approved the non-subscription Freesat to, “benefit homes with poor terrestrial reception”.
Confusingly, there’s already a BSkyB Freesat that’s free once reception equipment has been bought for £150.
Then there’s Freeview, managed by DTV Services and owned and run by the BBC, BSkyB Channel 4, ITV and National Grid Wireless.
Now, at an overall one-time cost of between about £130 to £200, the BBC/ITV Freesat goes live today to 98% of homes, including those that are unable to receive Freeview through a TV aerial, promises the BBC.
Freesat will carry 80 digital TV and radio channels, including free high definition programmes, with that number due to rise to 200 by the end of 2008, says the BBC, going on:
“Users will make a one-off payment for a dish, set-top box and installation, but will not pay a monthly subscription. However, the price of a box will start at £49 (about $97), rising to £120 (ahout $237) for a high-definition version. Installation, including the satellite dish, will cost a further £80 (about $156).”
The BBC’s HD channel will appear on the service immediately, while ITV HD will launch soon, says the story, adding:
“Set-top boxes will be available from high street retailers, who will also arrange installation.”
