No Zune copyright cop, says Microsoft
p2pnet news | TV:- Bill and the Boyz say the New York Times report that they’re planning to plant a copyright cop in Zune is wrong.
A “future update of the software for Microsoft’s portable media player may well include a feature that will block unauthorized copies of copyrighted videos from being played on it,” said the NYT yesterday.
But, “Microsoft issued a statement on Wednesday denying that there was any agreement to filter content,” says CNET News, going on:
“Microsoft has no plans or commitments to implement content filtering features in the Zune family of devices as part of our content distribution deal with NBC,” the software maker said in a statement.
Microsoft launched its Zune video store this week with about 800 TV show episodes, including content from NBC, which earlier pulled its content from iTunes in a dispute over pricing and other issues, says the story.
Meanwhile, Microsoft figures punters would be willing to pay two bucks a pop for downloads of TV shows they can play on Zunes.

just that there is allegedly (not yet) an “agreement” does NOT mean that they do not plan such stuff!
Bill and the Boyz are sneaky!
Just read the eula (at least some older ones) of Windows Media Player where they expressly reserve the right to “kill” content on your machine via “updates”!

They are a large corporation, they would never lie .. of course I believe them.

Still, if they really had no intention of implementing a “copyright cop”, MS needed that kind of publicity like a heart attack. I’m sure Job’s is laughing all the way to the bank. (yes, I know songs from ITunes have drm, but as far as I know Itunes/Ipods do not interfere with user installed mp3 files).

I don’t want to pay $2 for a TV show. I’d much rather pay $35 for a high speed connection to the internet and download it all for free!
