Microsoft's two-headed Janus DRM technology is ready for prime time and the software giant has wasted no time integrating it into a revamped version of its flagship Windows Media Player (WMP).

Janus, which marries Windows Media DRM for Portable Devices and Windows Media DRM for Network Devices, is a key addition to the new WMP 10, which was released as a technical beta on Wednesday.

With the integration of Janus to the revamped WMP 10, Microsoft (Quote, Chart) has added support for premium, DRM-protected content on a range of portable devices.

It's DRM'd up the whazoo for starters, second its MS, third it phones home non-stop and most likely will catalogue your media so MS can better serve you ;), third its MS,

fourth MS sees the fact that the OS mkt long term is a lost cause , they'll delay it as long as possible though so they can establish (dominate) themselves in a new mkt, Apple will most likely be their next anti-competitve target...msPod anyone...Portable Media Center??

I use wmp9 as my main media player because the sound quality is better than anything else (I've tried them all). Hopefully wmp10 is an improvement, but to be honest I can't think of anything I'd do to improve wmp9... those of you who are flaming it I wish you would elaborate.

I wouldn't use it personally. I have far too many others (6 of them) that do what Windows Media Player does, plus more and I don't have to worry about being invaded by software that I don't want.
