Myrmekiaphila NeilYoungi

p2pnet news | Music:- Myrmekiaphila neilyoungi.

It has a certain ring to it, don’t you think?

In what has to be one of the strangest tributes to a music icon, East Carolina University biologist Jason Bond, a fan of Canada’s Neil Young, has named a new kind of trapdoor spider after him.

“There are rather strict rules about how you name new species,” Bond says, according to the CBC.

“As long as these rules are followed you can give a new species just about any name you please.

“With regards to Neil Young, I really enjoy his music and have had a great appreciation of him as an activist for peace and justice.”

    “neilyoungi”

    CASVS GENITIVVS HOC ESTNE.

If he doesn’t like it I guess he will sue the guy for using his name. Can’t sue spiders. He could try eradicating them, but that might be seen as bad form. But why put your name or someone elses to a species? Makes no sense to me. The same with latin names. Just a good, plain English description should suffice.

I’m not sure you can sue for having a spider named after you. I don’t think there are laws that exist to cover that.

I firmly believe that suing over naming a spider after you would be petty and frivolous. If, on the other hand, it were a type of skunk that was named after him, I would understand any animosity.
