Parasites linking to p2pnet: Part II

p2pnet news | Advertising:- Further to my post on Saturday where I moaned about the fact it’s getting harder and harder to see genuine items on WordPress incoming links, p2pnet’s magnetic attraction parasite linkers seems to be worsening.

Here’s what I found when I went for a look a little while ago >>>

In short, I’m now totally blocked from seeing genuine incoming links.

Said Andy in a Reader’s Write >>>

I think it’s the next battle in the SEO war. First, Google invented page rank, and rated sites on incoming links. The parasites developed link farms to boost their rating. Google must have responded by detecting sites that only link to each other, and ranking them down. I think what you’re seeing is an attempt not to be seen as a link farm; by linking to a popular site, they are attempting to bypass the link farm detection algorithm. You could alert Google to this, but they probably know.

What I can’t work out, is whether there’s any disadvantage to you in all this.

On the plus side, it’s giving you incoming links for free! On the downside, it’s polluting the search space with irrelevant terms.

As I said first time around, I’d at least like to know how these parasites benefit from attaching themselves to p2pnet.

Many (most) of them don’t even appear to have links to p2pnet, even though they show up on the WordPress Incoming Links list.

This time, I’m emailing the offenders.

The first three and Trumpeting Angels are from Design Toscano, Dazed N Confused and Annie Bonnie are down to ShoeBuy.com, “The World’s Largest Site For Shoes,” and the Kirby links are from GoVacuum, (no clear email address so I tried sales and info @govacuum.com) also mentioned in my first post on this.

My email says >>>

I run http://www.p2pnet.net, a digital media news blog and your site, which has absolutely nothing to do with content on mine, is somehow and for some reason linking to me.

What benefit do you gain from this?

Whatever it is, stop immediately and send me an explanation.

Cheers! And thanks …

Stay tuned.

maybe you should sue them for linking to you.

  2. Jon Says:

    Cheers!

Risking to sound like the RIAA but i think your over pissed about your neighbors selling tickets to view your house. I know your having a hard time keeping this site up and running and put a lot of effort into it but you have to admit your pissed someone else found a way to profit from your work witch is very common nowadays.
Yet i do not agree with others consuming your bandwidth.

But only 1 thing don’t contribute to the idea that linking is a crime. Find a way around it.

r u serious? *don’t contribute to the idea that linking is a crime* see this http://www.p2pnet.net/story/15895 “?

  5. Reader's Write Says:

Just ban all links in comments, simple. They are rarely useful anyway.

  6. Reader's Write Says:

There could also be URL redirection involved. This might explain why there are no visible links to P2Pnet that appear on those sites.

The reasons could be to pump search engine rankings or some kind of pay-by-the-click setup to scam advertisers, like the kind common about 7-10 years ago until people got wise to it. I really don’t know, as it does not follow any formula or strategy I’ve seen used before.

I’d like to know if all stories get linked equally, or if it’s mainly those ‘Britney secrets revealed’ stories that get hit with all the spam/farm links?

  7. Reader's Write Says:

I agree that others should not be allowed to profit from non profit work, and from comments on your stories. These sites which use link farming to gain hits ought to be banned, or search engines like Google ought to remove them from search results. You also get search results to pages which are search results in themselves, and they are just as ugly I feel, and a scam. But this may be what you’re referring to. I don’t understand it much.

I’m happy for any of my comments to show up on search engine results directing to your site, but not if they link to some scam site
