Zuckerberg makes nice with Google

p2pnet news | Advertising:- Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg now wants to repair bridges with Google even though, he implied in Japan, the latter’s Friend Connect is naught but a copy of a “similar” Facebook “service” introduced a couple of years back.
After all, “Google’s a big player in the space,” he observed.
Disconnecting from Google Friend Connect, “We’ve found that it [Do No Evil Google] redistributes user information from Facebook to other developers without users’ knowledge, which doesn’t respect the privacy standards our users have come to expect and is a violation of our Terms of Service,” blogged Facebook’s Charlie Cheever last week, pretending the company gives a fig about user privacy,
So, “Just as we’ve been forced to do for other applications that redistribute data in a way users might not expect or understand, we’ve had to suspend Friend Connect’s access to Facebook user information until it comes into compliance,” he said sanctimoniously.
Now, “We want to talk to Google about this and see if there’s a way we can make it work,” IDG News Service has Zuckerberg saying in Tokyo where he was opening a Japanese Facebook.
There, Zuckerberg, “contradicted Google Engineering Director David Glazer, who said last week in a phone interview with IDG News Service that Google had spoken to Facebook about the service prior to its launch,” says the story, going on, “They launched that without asking us or talking to us about it first so we had no choice but to follow the rules that we had set forth for any developer on top of our platform and we followed them,” said Zuckerberg regretfully.
But, “Google’s a big player in the space and they make good things and our goal is to work with them to figure this out.”
Zuckerberg also noted Facebook has had a similar service, Facebook Connect, available since late 2006.
“We think it’s good that other people are picking up on this trend now,” the story quotes him as saying.
Meanwhile, Japan’s Mixi, “has the market virtually sewn up with more than 10 million users, and some doubt whether Facebook’s top selling point, that people use real names, will appeal to Japanese users, many of whom only feel free to express themselves when hiding behind a pseudonym,” says IDG, adding Zuckerberg hinted an update to Facebook Mobile, “might be coming for Japan and other advanced mobile markets”.
