Napster looks to Apple for salvation

p2pnet news | Music:- Can you see iPodders switching to, wait for it, Napster?

The corporate music industry killed it if off years ago and virtually ever since, a wan and pale look-alike has been stumbling from one failed effort to another, trying to capitalize on the name of the P2P application which started the file sharing epidemic.

Now Napster boss Chris Gorog is looking to Apple to pull its chestnuts out of the fire.

Seriously.

Today Napster starts peddling MP3s in a move it, “hopes will lure iPod users and turn around Napster’s sliding fortunes,” says the Associated Press, going on, “The company is the latest to make the switch to the unrestricted file format, which makes it music tracks compatible with virtually any music player or other device.”

“It’s great that we have finally gotten here,” the story has Napster boss Chris Gorog saying.

“It is really the beginning of a level playing field, which I think is essential for Napster, but also for the health of the digital music business in general.”

No! Really! He said that!

Napster MP3s will be a dollar a pop with albums costing ten bucks.

Good luck with that.

Hoping for a market with the brain dead zombie niche? It’s like Audiogalaxy coming back 10 years later with a pay service. Who’d bite? It can stay dead for all I care, and I’d speak for 99% of others I believe. They’d have been better off changing the name. If they’re hoping to lure ex Nappys with the loyalty notion, forget it.

It like a cheesy zombie flick and will never work… you see the person underneath but are constantly reminded that that person is dead and only the zombie “lives”.

I agree with the above poster, hoping to get ex Nappys with this new bastardized version of Napster is a pipe dream… and incase most of you didnt get that…the pipe is filled with a certain plant… :p

    Cheer!
