Hollywood’s new Canadian mouth person

p2pnet news | MPAA News:- Canadian MPAA clone, the Canadian Motion Picture Distributors Association, has a new front person.
Well, not new exactly. Wendy Noss been running the Hollywood propaganda-cum-PR-cum-lobbying outfit since January when Douglas Frith, “stepped down as Hollywood’s point man in Canada after 12 years,” said Playback.
But No worries! Doug, an ex-Liberal MP, won’t be far away.
He’ll still be nagging Canada’s Hollywood-compliant Conservative government, but on a purely commercial basis as a, “career politico-turned-lobbyist”.
Phew. That’s a relief!
Noss, a “veteran intellectual property lawyer who joined the CMPDA in 2006 as general counsel,” will now, “assume the thorny job of lobbying for copyright reforms and protections in Canada on behalf of the major Hollywood studios,” says Playback, noting:
“Among Frith’s accomplishments were the swift passage of anti-camcording legislation in 2007, and he pushed for a recent round of tax-credit hikes in Ontario and Quebec to ease the impact of the surging Canadian dollar on Hollywood shoots.”
Meanwhile, Noss, “will be an effective and persuasive representative for the film industry,” says CMPDA board chairman Bob Pisano who, in an amazing coincidence, it is also president and CEO of the MPAA.
The, “continuing failure of the Canadian government to introduce new legislation to reduce copyright infringements, and to bring Canada in line with the 1997 World Intellectual Property Organization Internet treaties, will now become preoccupations for Noss,” observed Playback in January.
