TOMORROW, NET NEUTRALITY RALLY, OTTAWA

p2pnet news | Freedom:- Tomorrow is Net day —- the day Canadians walk, run, ride or fly to to Parliament to rally en masse to let federal industry minister Jim Prentice and Bell Canada know who depends on who.

Bell Canada, the country’s largest ISP, was suffering under the delusion it could lock off groups of its customers, trying to say they’re responsible for bandwidth congestion. And instead of sticking up for the people who put him into office, Prentice is backing Bell.

May 27 is the date selected to tell them both just how wrong they are.

Click here to confirm you’ll be at Parliament Hill to straighten out Prentice and the people who run Bell.

And we understand there’ll be interesting news tomorrow which should substantially move the cause along.

For now, if you’re planning to drive to Ottawa and aren’t familiar with the city, “print lots of Google maps, or bring your GPS,” suggests tertech on dslreports, going on:

“Ottawa is infamous for roads suddenly changing names. Hazeldean becomes Robertson, becomes Richmond, becomes Wellington and sure the hell looks like the same road to me. When I first moved here from TO it drove me nuts! Whatever your plan, have a contingency; esp. if you’re counting on finding a spot in a park & ride and taking the bus to Parliament Hill. Also be aware that the buses require exact change or tickets. If the fare is $3.00 and all you have is two toonies, then you’ll pay $4.00 for that trip.”

“In Barrhaven (exit the 416 at Fallowfield, exit 66), there are two park and rides,” says Kardinal, going on >>>

Take the 95 to downtown.

Fallowfield Station (OC Transpo and VIA Rail stations)

The one in Greenboro (South Keys) is reserved parking for the O-Train and is patrolled by security, but the massive box store mall next door has lots of space.

Take the 97 or take the O-train to Bayview (other end of the route) and transfer to the 95 to downtown.

And if Barrhaven is full, which could be the case, says mazhurg, “it’s easy to head a little way south on Greenbank and park in the Barrhaven Shopping Centre (Loblaw/Wal*Mart). You can catch the 95 there, and I don’t think anybody’s going to notice or care about a car there for ~3 hours. Lord knows, my wife parks there and has barely started shopping in 3 hrs.

“You can also go to South Keys (south end, corner of Banks and hunt Club). I’s been a while since I’ve been to Ottawa, but there is a terminus right at South Keys and it is very quick to get Downtown from there. Also *lot* of parking both at the terminus or the mall.”

If you can’t be there it in person, click here to send the letter below to industry minister Jim Prentice >>>

Minister Prentice:

I am deeply concerned about Bell Canada’s recent announcement that it will make its practice of throttling official starting April 7.

Canada does not have strict enforceable net neutrality legislation and so there is very little structure in place to prevent the big ISPs from discriminating by speeding up or slowing down Web content based on its source, ownership or destination.

I am outraged that Canada does not have a policy to protect my ability to communicate and access information freely on the Internet and urge you to take action on this matter immediately.

“If we don’t stand up and get both a better public and a stronger political understanding, our internet freedoms might be up for grabs to the highest bidder, or worse, stolen,” says Rocky Gaudrault, CEO of TekSavvy Solutions and one of the rally’s organizers.
