I heartily agree.
To me, a hotmail address carries the same implications as an aol address. Especially when there are a lot of numbers in the username, like "hotchick9384575". Wow, you were the 9384575th person to come up with that username. And I doubt you are very hot, even if you are a girl.
As you said, Hotmail is kiddy stuff. Anybody who uses it after the 9th grade for anything other than a throwaway address should be avoided.

Reliability Problem

I have noticed a dramatic decline in reliablility of sending and receiving messages over the last month. I no longer know if something I have sent has been received, and those sending me info assume I'm in the loop. Not good.

As soon as I get off my duff I will signing up with someone more professional.

The same thing happened to me a year or so ago. Catholic.org offered a email service that got totally erased, so I lost all saved emails - however this was just a dropbox account.

I recommend using a service such as www.Myrealbox.com which offers IMAP support, so even though it is not my primary email, I use it to store a backup of all mail from other pop3/imap accounts. (myrealbox is only suitable as a backup - it is a beta testing server and is sometimes down for days at a time)
