p2pnet Readers’ Writes, June 13-14

p2pnet news | P2P:- Hi all:
I’m taking a badly needed break for a couple of weeks and I’d like to ask your help to keep p2pnet least partially ticking over.
If you wouldn’t mind, if you find stories, links, and so on, you think might interest other people, could you post them as comments?
Ottawa Gal and her husband are going to keep an eye out for spam, etc, and I’ll log on when I can.
Out of interest, on June 13,1774, Rhode Island becomes the first of Britain’s North American colonies to ban the importation of slaves.
And on June 14, 1938, Action Comics issue one was released, introducing Superman.
And thanks again for the help
See you full-time on June 17.

Anti-SLAPP bill introduced in National Assembly
Kevin Dougherty, The Gazette
Published: 33 minutes ago
Quebec – Justice Minister Jacques Dupuis introduced an anti-SLAPP bill Friday in the Quebec National Assembly to prevent strategic law suits against public participation.
The bill, which will be carried over to the fall sitting of the assembly, will amend Quebec’s Code of Civil Procedure to allow a judge to throw out legal action judged to be a SLAPP, in other words meant to saddle environmentalist or other public-interest groups or individuals with costly legal bills as a way to silence protests.
A $5-million law suit by AIM Inc., a Montreal-based metals company, against environmentalists who alleged AIM was illegally polluting the Etchemin River, near Quebec City, spurred demand for an anti-SLAPP law in the province.

Yahoo and Google create ad alliance
Google stepped in after Yahoo turned down a $47.5bn offer from Microsoft in May [AFP]
Yahoo and Google have entered into an alliance that will let Google handle some of Yahoo’s advertising sales.
Yahoo estimates that the arrangement could boost its revenue by as much as $800 million during the first 12 months of the partnership. Still, the news, disclosed on Thursday, caused Yahoo shares to fall 10 per cent as investors abandoned hope that Microsoft would renew its quest to buy Yahoo.
The Google partnership will have to pass what is likely to be a rigorous review by US anti-trust regulators and legislators.
The process is non-exclusive, meaning others could join in the bidding to place adverts, a factor that could make it easier for the deal to win regulatory approval.
The companies have agreed to wait three and a half months for such an approval and to offer a way to end it if Yahoo is taken over.
