MPAA defaces new York subways

p2pnet news | MPAA News:- Hollywood is defacing New York subway platforms with an unreal Get Real ad campaign.
The idea is to, ” heighten consumer awareness about DVD piracy on New York subways,” says MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) boss Dan Glickman.
With New York mayor Michael R. Bloomberg in tow, “This next phase of the campaign and the mayor’s commitment to helping fight piracy in New York are much needed during the summer when so many great movies are being released,” he says, adding:
“We commend the City for supporting this important project.”
Using the, “universally recognizable look and feel of the iconic MPAA ratings system,” the campaign, “underscores the losing proposition of purchasing bootlegged DVDs with mock ratings of ‘RO’ for Ripped-Off, ‘PS’ for Poor Sound, ‘SP’ for Stupid Purchase, ‘OV’ for Obstructed View and ‘F’ for Fake.
That should do the trick

Persecuting downloaders who are sharing for free is one thing*, but I don’t see the problem of going after people who *sell* fake DVDs. These pricks are actively profiting off the back of the movie studios, which changes everything.
*Anyone who’s read my previous posts will know what a despicable act I think persecuting downloaders is.

Personally, I find the emphasis disturbing.
There are any number of far more important things than DVD counterfeiting to be highlighted and combated.
Cheers!

Looks at the first two.
Wait i’ve rented plenty of legal movies and was ripped-off (bad movie with great reviews and lots of awards) and plenty that had poor sound (music louder than speech, actors who can’t whisper, and sound techs who won’t go slap the actor for their stupidity). And buying them permenantly .. yeh stupid perchise fits.
Real DVD 3/5 piracy factors .. I guess better call that number.

Once again when government official let a cast of parasites temper with the law because they let themselves corrupted, there is no law.
This means that the distinction between innocent bystander and criminals is blurred.
At this rate of corruption, the parasites in the RIAA/MPAA/BPI/CRIA/IFPI camp do not realize that soon people will tolerate attacks against the music and movies executives.
I know that these pieces of shit do not car about our societies but they are creating a very dangerous situation for themselves but also and unfortunately for the rest of us. When the authorities become unreasonable they lose credibility and respect, creating a situation of lawlessness.

“This next phase of the campaign and the mayor’s commitment to helping fight piracy in New York are much needed during the summer when so many great movies are being released.”
WHAT????!!!!!
Great movies my ass! This is the time of the year when studios release the worst films imaginable to intentionally cash in on the mainstream moviegoing audience. 4 out of 5 summer movies are the same CGI filled, low-brow action blockbuster, or the latest crude humour-based Seth Rogen flick. The quality of films has hit an all time low, and the studios’ method of realeasing poorly conceived films to profit from the masses has impaired it even moreso.
Back to the original story: these subway posters are really nothing new. I was in England a few months back, and they had a similar campaign, warning that supporting piracy could potentially—and I do emphasize the word “potentially”—fund terrorism, drug trafficking, illegal immigrant smuggling, and all kinds of bullshit that have no connection with piracy whatsoever. Anyone can invent these claims to make themselves look serious, but the consumers can see right through their outright lies.
The only way to convince consumers to pay is to release better quality films. It’s that simple. Technology has certainly made it easier for us to obtain unauthorized digital media, but the fact is consumers have always been willing to pay for a decent product. They are not, however, willing to be ripped off, charged ridiculous amounts of money for box office admission or concessions, forced to sit through endless advertisements, subjected to advertisements that accuse them of criminal activities and seek to intimidate them through scare tactics, have their personal items searched for recording devices, and placed under surveillance during their stay at a cinema.
Enough is enough. You want the consumers back? Then start treating them like customers. We don’t have to put up with this kind of abuse just to sit through a sub-par film. We know how to get what we want, when we want, without being subjected to your propaganda. If you’re not going to provide it, we’ll provide it ourselves.

The next 9-11 is about to happen and they want to track down a bunch of video copiers.

Of course the city will allow the propaganda. No harm no foul.
