Record industry dead: KISS’ Gene Simmons

p2pnet news P2P | Music:- “The record industry is dead.
“It’s six feet underground and unfortunately the fans have done this. They’ve decided to download and file share. There is no record industry around so we’re going to wait until everybody settles down and becomes civilised. As soon as the record industry pops its head up we’ll record new material.”
Yeh? Yeh.
That’s according to KISS bass player Gene Simmons, quoted in an AOL Australia story
His remarks come by way of a follow-up to his statement in November, 2007, that the record industry, “doesn’t have a fucking clue how to make money.”
He went on at the time >>>
It’s only their fault for letting foxes get into the henhouse and then wondering why there’s no eggs or chickens. Every little college kid, every freshly-scrubbed little kid’s face should have been sued off the face of the earth. They should have taken their houses and cars and nipped it right there in the beginning. Those kids are putting 100,000 to a million people out of work. How can you pick on them? They’ve got freckles. That’s a crook. He may as well be wearing a bandit’s mask.
Sean Coon didn’t agree.
“Hey Gene, hate to break it to you, but bands are still hitting the stage and they’re more empowered than ever to make a ‘record,” he said in the last item of a seven-point post, adding >>>
The difference? They don’t live in an age where long tongues, fake blood and platform boots can sell millions of copies of a two-hit record for $10, all the while being fronted big cash by a label who could sell an igloo to an Eskimo and get him to pay an extra $100 to see a grade B act fill a Colosseum show. This is the information age; those days have been dead for years now.
But, “I do love you in Gene Simmons Family Jewels, though,” he noted
Meanwhile, Simmon’s comments were apparently aimed at Radiohead who did very nicely via free downloads, thank you, but whose recent Paris show left them with an, “ecologically unsound 35 unclaimed tickets on their hands,” says the Sun.
“Radiohead are using their current world tour to highlight their commitment to green issues,” the story says.
So the band offered 50 free tickets to fans in Gay Paree under the proviso they’d have to get on their bikes, literally, to claim their rewards.
“Unfortunately the French didn’t appear to share their noble intentions and roundly ignored the free ticket tactic,” says the Sun.

Gene is just angry that he hasn’t found a way to monopilize and make money for himself off of p2p networks yet.
June 18th, 2008 at 11:30 am
…says the man who repackages the same twenty songs every single year and has the fucking nerve to sell it for twenty bucks a pop. Asshole.
June 18th, 2008 at 11:35 am
So he wants to sue people so that they can’t buy music anyway because they’ll have no money? Way to go, think about this for a minute…
Sue a person for hunderds of thousands of dollars for downloading music. Now there’s two outcomes:
1) Said person doesn’t have enough money to pay you and does something like declare bankruptcy (so you get no money anyways). Now not only does the person have no money to buy your music, they also have no will to buy it because you destroyed their life.
OR
2) You can’t actually sue them. In which case, you’re still wasting money on lawyers.
Unless I’m missing something, your losing money either way. The only thing left to be determined with whether you look like douche-bag for wrecking someone’s life or an idiot for trying.

I guess Gene has never heard of indi music. According to him, there’s no more good music to be found. So not only is he a moron, he’s also out of touch.

70 year olds know about p2p?

Chaim Weitz (AKA Gene Simmons) has been a very shrewd businessman though a lousy musician. It’s always been all about money for him. Therefore, it should not surprise anyone that, unlike most true musicians, he has absolutely no interest in making an album out of any love of the art — assuming that what he does can even be called art.
Kiss has always targeted the mid-teen male demographic – once a lucrative market segment – but who are now the most avid file-sharers. After making a career out of stoking the flames of teenage rebellion, now he’s upset that his target audience has had the nerve to rebel against … the music industry.

Reminds me of a certain fmaily guy episode where a basketball player argues at stewie for a accidental tripping.
Stewie: I know you ain’t puttin that rock up from here, cause you ain’t got no J! (Stewie trips basketball player)
Baskeball player: Yo man, that’s trippin!
Stewie: Brotha please, you’re the one who’s trippin’! Now go on! Cry home to your momma! She waitin’ for ya!
Basketball player: Now don’t make me stick my size thirteens up yo narrow a$$!
Stewie: Oh, sweet! Bring it on b****! Now how you gonna act?! (Basketball player walks away.) Jeeze! Bringin that trash in here. Dis is my house!!!

KISS is still around? I remember back when I was in elementary school, half the boys in my classes were obsessed with KISS. They’d have arguments over the proper way to draw the “SS” in the band’s logo. I figured they disbanded years ago.

Oh shut up Gene. No-one cares.
June 18th, 2008 at 5:53 pm
Gene Simmons? The last two songs I heard from his group were “Lick it Up” and “All Hell’s Breakin’ Loose”, both from 1983.
Where is your Gold now?

How can anyone have a tongue that long? Is it transplanted from a giraffe? Does this turn anyone on? I liked Beth but you’re a freak old fella.

Ding dong, the music industry is dead! But when did this happen and isn’t it a little optimistically premature? That would have no effect on music production however, but Gene it wouldn’t bother me a tit if u never released another compilation remix or even something “new”. John Lennon was cut down in his prime and we had to learn to live with it, and you’re not half as good.

I wonder what Mr. Gene Simmons would think if he found out that TELEVISION shows are passed around P2P sites? I think he’d pop an eye out if he ever found out that evil pimply fresh cleaned ppl where out there and having the audacity to pass around television shows w/out “gasp” commercials, all those thieves…what to do…
Well Gene, thanks to flooding in the midwest, gas costing $4.00+, utility giants raising their rates, and other items hitting our wallets, I think we all have more things to worry about then if someone has the $$$ to relive the 70’s-80’s in the style that they are used to…
So, who are these ppl that where put out of business ?? I didn’t see a single report, fact, statement or study to back up any of those comments… its like watching the old MPAA video that shows how d/ling movies and TV shows where putting hard-working carpenters, electricians, etc, out of a job… but again, no proof..
This is sad, I’m from the same era as Mr. Simmons, but I have moved on with my life… maybe its time for him to do so as well…
June 19th, 2008 at 8:03 am
Are you kidding me? You would put Metallica at the top of this list? Even at the worst moments of the Napster debacle, Metallica never spewed such vile, hateful bitterness as Simmons is every time he opens his mouth now.
“Every little college kid, every freshly-scrubbed little kid’s face should have been sued off the face of the earth. They should have taken their houses and cars”.
For what, exactly? Listening to a Kiss song?
I tell you, I own a few Kiss albums, but every time I think of one of their songs, all I can think of is this idiot saying how much he hates his fans. This guy is WAY worse than Metallica. *.* expressed it very nicely. It is quite clear just why Simmons makes “music”, and it’s not because he loves doing it. “Kiss” has always been such a commercial whore anyway. I hope I can return my “Kiss” casket.

How dare you besmirch the name of one of the four stars of the greatest movie ever made – KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park
June 22nd, 2008 at 1:11 pm
The fans didn’t do this. Major labels and price gougers like FYE are to blame for the state the industry is in.

SHUT IT SIMMONS !
September 23rd, 2008 at 12:28 am
gene simmons.A unique man. However, also a crude & creedy man too obsessed with $, just ask his live in mate. He has a fortune to his name but won’t marry his girl out of fear that she might take some of his precious gold which by the way has no soul or true meaning.
he also bad mouths ace & peter criss..making them both seem useless to the band. I saw Kiss in 96..I think..their first reunion tour.I felt the only person who was worth watching was ace.The papers next day also praised only ace who was responsible for that unique sound heard on the 75′ live lp.Those are his chops..simple or not, ace has his own style.he was ripped off & angered due to simmons & stanley being too greedy to give them a fair cut in profits.but, thats another story. Bottom line, I like simmons in Kiss..to a point & all based on his past. But, his obvious greed ( in general) is a turnoff for he clearly is rich but the piggy wants more & more..like a greedy DEVIL…its sickening! Oh, & I’m 45 yrs. old. I was a kiss fan when the first live LP hit stores…..
