‘Spam-King’ Richter owes MySpace $6M

p2pnet news Crime:- “Synergy6 Inc, an e-mail marketing company based in New York, and Scott Richter, said to be the world’s third-largest spammer, are the first targets in an anti-SPAM campaign launched by New York State attorney general Eliot Spitzer and Microsoft,” p2pnet posted back in 2003, going on:
“The SPAM in question advertised, among other things, penis enlargement products, human growth hormone, sexual enhancers and ‘the opportunity to meet Russian women for potential marriage,’ says the case sheet.”
Now Richter has been ordered to pay MySpace $6 million, “over allegations he blitzed users of the social networking website with junk mail messages sent from hijacked accounts,” says The Register.
Richter, accused of pumping out more than 100 million spam messages per day, was sued by MySpace in January 2007 in connection with an August 2006 campaign in which MySpace members were hit with unsolicited messages promoting a Web site called Consumerpromotionscenter.com, says the IDG News Service, going on:
“The messages were sent from phished MySpace accounts, according to the findings of Philip Boesch, the court-appointed arbitrator in the case.”
Richter was listed in the ROKSO top 200 spammers, “but his inclusion in the list was deleted in 2005, when Spamhaus acknowledged that Richter and his company had not received any complaints for over a year,” says the Wikipedia.
“His company once sent some 100 million emails a day,” it states, adding, “One of the most famous emails was the offer of most-wanted Iraqi playing cards in 2003.”
Richter claimed to have sold 40,000 decks before they were even printed.
