Parents help cops nail online predator

p2pnet news | Crime:- The vigilant parents of a Calgary teenager are being credited with warning local police about a man who’d apparently been trying to use the Net as a lure.

“Police charged a 51-year-old Airdrie man Tuesday after parents alerted them about online messages sent to their child,” states the Calgary Herald.

“It was very good monitoring on the parents’ behalf, they came forward right away,” the story has constable Francine Hiebert saying.

Police said it, “appears the accused and the teen had a previous connection prior to the online luring and investigators have not ruled out whether other victims might be involved,” according to the Edmonton Sun.

“Saying it would jeopardize the investigation, cops would not say if the victim was male or female.”

    Vigilant indeed, perhaps more vigilante.

I thought that our fair sister to the North had weird laws, such as how it’s illegal for parents to evesdrop on their child’s phone conversations…? In fact, this hot on the heels of the case where the parents grounded their kid from going to the school graduation celebration as punishment, and the kid SUCCESSFULLY sued her parents?!?! So much for Canada being more progressive than the U.S. At least we still fight for family values and hold the family unit sacred (not so much the individual), although that is quickly being eroded by the radical liberals in our midst. The end result is Socialism. Think about it.

What’s wrong with socialism? I think you are confusing it with communism, which any competent 6th grader knows is different…

Their really is no ‘winning’ is there ?

In the Megan Meier threads they try to portray megans parents as fools for not monitoring what their
child was doing, and in this one we’re going to bash parents for monitoring their kids activities, and
    catching a predator.

    Which is it ?

Can’t have it both ways ?

  4. Reader's Write Says:

Parents ought to monitor their childrens online activities if they care about them at all. Children are trusting and don’t understand the dangers. Predators know that and use it to their advantage. In fact they shouldn’t be in contact with anyone who is not known and approved by the parents. Pedophiles lurk in every chatroom.

I have a bit of free software called VNC. It’s installed on all the
computers in the house. It allows me to pop in and watch what’s
going on on every PC in the house from my main PC.
I have been using it since my daughters were old enough to have
their own computers. They know it’s there and that I can spot check
at any time from any location ( works over the internet too ).

  6. Effi Says:

I am using the Crwaler parental control system which also helps me to monitor and restrict usage based on day hours nad get screen shots of the user’s activity.
