Google: after you with AdPlanner

p2pnet news | Advertising:- You think they’re after you now?
Well, you ain’t seen nothing yet, from the look of it.
‘They’ are advertisers hot for you and your dollars, with the likes of Google and Phorm in the lead.
Britain’s Phorm has the European commission on its back.
“The Commission is aware of the activities of the company Phorm in the UK, concerning the analysis of internet traffic for advertising purposes, the agreement between Phorm and major internet service providers in the UK and the concerns that have been raised about the effects on privacy of these activities,” said the EC last month.
But no one seems bothered by Google which today launches Google Ad Planner, “a research and media planning tool that connects advertisers and publishers,” it says.
“The search giant hopes to lure in more advertisers by providing detailed information about how particular sites are used,” says Times Online ominously.
When using it, “simply enter demographics and sites associated with your target audience, and the tool will return information about sites (both on and off the Google content network) that your audience is likely to visit,” promises the company.
And, “You can drill down further to get more detail like demographics and related searches for a particular site, or you can get aggregate statistics for the sites you’ve added to your media plan.”
Data thus mined, “would then be offered to advertisers at the time they buy adverts through DoubleClick, the online advertising platform Google owns,” says
A Google spokesman declined to comment, it Times Online.
