eBay ‘use PayPal or else’ scheme blocked

p2pnet news | Freedom:- eBay’s efforts to force its Australian users to do what they’re told have been stymied once again.
“The company is laying it on, hot and heavy, with its five million Australian users having already told them You WILL use PayPal and ONLY PayPal,” p2pnet posted.
PayPal is, of course, owned by eBay.
But the company has had to cancel its its July 15 ‘obey or else’ deadline until a review by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is completed, says Australian IT.
“eBay regrets any ongoing uncertainty that this further delay may cause and will advise you of any future plans for implementation following the ACCC process,” it says unctuously on its Australian site.
The ACCC released a draft proposal to, “withdraw eBay’s immunity from sanctions for anti-competitive behaviour under Trade Practices laws for implementing the new payment policy,” says Australian IT, adding:
“The closing date for submissions to the regulator regarding the draft proposal is July 3.”

nice picture.
Today however, the very concept of torture is a patented business model, so that device would be infringing on intellectual property.

^^ No worries. They bought the company for $2.5 billion and are now farming it out to the entertainment cartels through the Skype guys.
They’re calling it the Ultimate in DRM.
Cheers!

“Anti-competitive behaviour?”
Ya think?
Selling goods or services that people want in a normal competitive marketplace is no longer in fashion in the big business world. “Controlling consumer behavior” a.k.a. forcing crap down people’s throats is the favored model now. It’s also very popular to use any means available to crush any “smaller” business who would have the audacity to actually respond to the marketplace with something people just want to buy. There’s a huge void between legal and ethical that’s filled with confidence men in business suits.
