"Please note that, should your account be closed as a result of contravention of BT’s Acceptable Use Policy, you will still have to pay any sums owing under the terms of your contract with us."

Yeah, good luck with that one. Why would someone want to continue PAYING for a service that's been cut off from them?

This is nothing new, but there is STILL no solid legal ground for the BPI to hang on to.
As soon as people get just ONE threatening letter in the UK, they are going to request a MAC and move to another ISP.
It's what I did years ago for what was termed 'excessive use', quite sad considering I was paying a premium for an 'unlimited' account.
No letters since then. No regrets. Have a much better service all round.

It's quite strange that a declining revenue for the music industry is mentioned.
As far as I'm aware, there really is no decline in profits.
The internet has grown over decades and all I see is the growth of both wealth and power of these film and music industries, no mass decline caused, allegedly, by people sharing.

If all this is made into law, it might be wise moving to N. Korea instead ;)
If all this is made legal and stuck rigidly to, all ISP's can wave goodbye to nearly all their customers, without exception.
Everybody downloads something that may allegedly infringe someones rights at some point.

Stupid laws are abundant..
They tend to get ignored or disappear.

BT and other ISPs are happy to send their customers back to the stone-age (read: dialup speeds), because they can then avoid investing money in infrastructure. Furthermore, they can start *selling their own priority content*. Why should paying users be allowed to use the full capacity of their bandwidth?? certainly not, they should be made to pay twice for accessing film, music and other entertainment! This is exactly what the ISPs have in mind (just look at virgin). To believe these moves are not in their own interests is naive.

Most ISP in uk are reselling BT wholesale e.g you > modem > BT landline > BT server > your ISP > internet.

There are some like ukonline/virgin which have there own land lines/cable but you must live where these are for that to be a option. Otherwise they just offer BT wholesale.

Real question is if BT wholesale is affected or just direct BT internet customers?

There are plenty of alternatives to using the lousy BT internet. Just because you use a BT landline doesn't mean they are your ISP.

For more information go here:

Please leave BT as soon as possible. With their illegal testing and deployment of Phorm, lousy speed results and service and now this toadying to the media cartels you should do all you can to leave the monopoly behind.

Internet is beieng stolen from the people by rogues corporations and shady governements who relationship to democracy is now just an name. We don't need the first and we don't need the second.

We have the mean the knowledge and the will to setup our one wirless internet replacement with the technology WE THE PEOPLE developed an withthe software we wrote. So if the ISP turn agaisnt us we will walk away from them and use our paralel internet. The technology (wifi) and sofware is already there and usage will be free.

And as far as these rogues corporations are concerned it will be their turn after we are done with the entertainement industry. We have the right and the duty to protect our countries and our liberties.
