Elite Torrents admin Dove faces 10 years
p2pnet news P2P | Movies:- Former Elite Torrents admin Daniel Dove, 26, has been convicted of conspiracy and felony copyright infringement.
It’s the first time in the US a P2P user, “has been convicted by a jury of copyright infringement,” says the FBI.
His conviction was the eighth resulting from Operation D-Elite, “a nationwide federal crackdown against the illegal distribution of copyrighted movies, software, games and music over P2P networks employing the BitTorrent file distribution technology,” says a statement.
“Fellow admins, Scott McCausland, Grant Stanley, Sam Kuonen, and Scott Harvanek, all pleaded guilty to similar charges,” says The Register.
Back in 2005, Homeland Security, the FBI’s Cyber Division and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, “today the first criminal enforcement action targeting individuals committing copyright infringement on peer-to-peer (P2P) networks using cutting edge file-sharing technology known as BitTorrent,” p2pnet posted, going on:
“Acting as inspiration was the movie cartel’s MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America).
” ‘This morning, agents of the FBI and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) executed 10 search warrants across the United States against leading members of a technologically sophisticated P2P network known as Elite Torrents,’ says a statement.”
Ironically, it specifically cited Star Wars, Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, as being, “available for downloading on the network more than six hours before it was first shown in theatres” which in the ensuing 24 hours, “was downloaded more than 10,000 times”.
In fact, the file was a print copy available only to Hollywood insiders.
When Revenge of the Sith arrived on the p2p networks, “There is no better example of how theft dims the magic of the movies for everyone than this report today regarding BitTorrent providing users with illegal copies of Revenge of the Sith,” raved MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) boss Dan ‘Jedi’ Glickman.
But, “The illegal distribution of ‘Sith’ started during the week before its May 19 release, when Albert Valente, 28, of Lakewood took a DVD copy of the film from a post-production facility where he worked,” said the Los Angeles Daily News.
Dove, slated to be sentenced on September 9, faces up to 10 years in jail.

Yeah. Look at how much money that movie lost in the theaters and from poor DVD sales from downlaoding.
