Michael Geist ‘Prentice Activities’ calendar

p2pnet news | Politics:- Ottawa law professor Michael Geist continues to highlight the efforts of federal industry minister Jim Prentice’s efforts to foist US-style DMCA copyright ‘reforms’ on Canadians.
He ran the plans for Prentice’s Stampede Breakfast on Saturday, but there’s more to come.
For example, “The federal government’s plans for digital prohibition have been put on hold during the summer break, but they will be back in the fall,” says the Vancouver Fair Copyright Facebook page, noting there’s a meeting tonight (July 3).
“Meanwhile, Canada is negotiating the ACTA treaty secretly with other countries,” it says, going on:
“Reports are that this will allow (even require) police and border officials to search our laptops and music players in search of music and videos. They would be able to determine, at their discretion, what was legal and what not.”
To make sure you don’t miss anything, Geist has launched a Google calendar to feature upcoming events, “as well as important dates in the copyright reform process”.
And you can help keep it up to date.
If you’re planning an event, “please let me know,” he says, going on:
“I will embed the calendar on the sidebar and users of Google calendar can easily subscribe to it or add it as an RSS feed.”
For now, as well as tonight’s Vancoubver meet, the the Winnipeg and Ottawa chapters both meet on July 8.
