Sony yanks PS3 firmware v2.40

p2pnet news | Games:- Sony has yanked its latest PlayStation 3 firmware after user complaints.
It was trashing their systems, say reports.
“We’ve received a limited number of calls from consumers experiencing an issue with installing the system software update on their PS3,” admits the company’s Patrick Seybold on the PlayStation blog.
He doesn’t say how many calls “limited” means, but says there were enough to encourage Sony to “temporarily” take Firmware v2.40 offline.
Meanwhile, “we are committed to providing the PS3 community with XMB access features delivered in the v2.40 update,” says Seybold.

Poor Sorny, they have pushing the PS3 quite well for the last 6 months with continuous firmware updates and new games. They are trying really hard to get their game console back on track and hopefully they will.

well for the ps3 a limited number of calls wouldn’t be very high considering there isn’t that many out there.
I know several people who got a ps3 just for the blueray player.
i think sony shot them selves in the foot with the ps3. too complicated and really only makes for a cheap blueray player

“there isn’t that many out there” there are millions!
“too complicated” yep should have been one model the original 60GB spec (hard disk size dose not mater as its meant to be upgradeable)

Sony has a patch issue with only a small percentage of its user base and handles it appropriately. Microsoft had defective problem units for years and failed in every aspect.
Kudos to Sony their support for the PS3

Dear Chris-
The PS3 is outselling the 360 in both the UK and Japan. To top it all off, if you know “several people” who bought it for a blu-ray player (notice not having an “e”. Please try to spell it correctly), then wouldnt that mean that it is selling well? Your post is totally contradicting itself.
I, on the other hand have installed this update on my personal 2 PS3s, and 3 of my friend’s PS3s and have not had a single problem.

It’s Blu-Ray, not blu-ray. Please try to capitalize correctly.
