PS3 better than Nintendo Wii, says Sony boss

Sony’s PlayStation 3 is surviving, barely, against Nintendo and now Sony boss Howard Stringer is trying to get around the continuing threat by saying the gaming console has something the Wiii doesn’t.
It, “isn’t a rival to the PlayStation 3 because it doesn’t offer the broader features of the Sony console, including the ability to watch movies and access the Internet, Sony Chief Executive Officer Howard Stringer said in an interview,” says Bloomberg News, which has him stating at a media conference:
“I’ve played a Nintendo Wii.
“I don’t see it as a competitor. It’s more of an expensive niche game device.”

Meanwhile, “The PlayStation 3 outsold the Xbox 360 in the U.S. in the first five months of 2008 after trailing Microsoft’s console in 2007,” says the story.”

Well, that would make sense considering the only people who buy/enjoy the Wii for more than 5 minutes are under the age of 10.
Admit it, the Wii is a joke. People like you make me sick, thinking the Wii is a real console. It’s a cheap piece of shit, no hard drive, shitty graphics, no HDMI support, dildo controllers that are no fun to use (especially in the Wii’s biggest hits, like SSBB for example…)
May I add that Nintendo’s 3rd party support is fucking horrible at best. Name one damn good game on the Wii that doesn’t have an Italian plumber or a gay green fairy-elf.
The Wii deserves to be belittled. The only good game on it is Brawl, and even that’s only fun to play with at least 4 people. If you have a Wii, and do not have at least 3 friends in your house at all times, the Wii absolutely sucks dick.
Now, I know that you Wii owners aren’t used to criticism and meany talking like this, considering you’re all toddlers, and especially since too many people think the Wii is the cutest little thing. People who love the Wii obviously haven’t played a real console.

I have a Wii.
My wife and I both enjoy it.
So far for over a year we have enjoyed it, will likely still
enjoy it.

The controllers, when utilized as intended, are the a fantastic innovation.

I don’t think that ones enjoyment of a console is something that deserves belittiling at all.
You like it or you don’t.

It IS actually.
In the world of adults, we buy what we like, regardless of someones opinion, or foul mouthed
badgering. Wii is popular for a reason .. you may not understand or like those reasons, but
an adult wouldn’t care, nor feel the need to attack those who like it.

I bought a wii and played it for about 2 weeks; I was going to sell it on ebay but havent yet (maybe I am keeping it because they are/were hard to get?). I have all 3 consoles and honesty I do not play my wii at all, in fact it is not even hooked up to a tv right now. I will have to agree with Chris, the wii is somewhat of a gimmick console and the technology most definately is not innovative as they used that same technology with the “power glove” which I had for NES back in 1990! The controls were not accurate then and continue to be non-precise/inaccurate now. Dont get me wrong the wii is a good console for a kid as the games are geared towards kids; but me being a 37 year old gamer (since pong!) I need the HD graphics and intense gameplay to satisfy my addictions. I would compare it to watching the SAW movies and then trying to get scared watching Scoobie Doo!

Eh, the Wii is good for what it aims to be. I’m a Nintendo fan, myself. But that doesn’t mean I think the Wii is the greatest thing since sliced bread. In all honesty, the Wii isn’t great, as far as the Hardware specs go. But before you condemn the Wii, consider this: What is the point of good graphics beyond a certain point? I find there to be a mindset out there that has taken prevalence and seems to think that graphics are all that is needed to make a certain game, and that if they do not like a game, then it is a ‘crappy’ game. I have Mario Kart Wii. Guess what, I hate that game. It’s fun with people, but otherwise it’s an annoying, head-desking type game for me. Does the game suck? No, I just don’t like it. However, I have to agree with Chris, the Wiimote control option for SSBB is pretty unusable. But, in response to the Wii being ‘inaccurate’ and ‘unresponsive’, I have to say I have not had that problem. I just set up the sensor bar correctly, and it works fine.
But then again, I’m not a fan of gore-based shmups, because I still think Goldeneye N64 is one of the best FPSes made. Frankly, I enjoy games on the Wii for the gameplay, not the number of people I can shoot and watch them scream as they’re run over by a tank.

Sega used to do that sort of belittlement with their ad campaign, “Sega does what Nintendon’t”. Their Genesis graphics were compared against NES screenshots. They took pot shots at the monochromatic Game Boy (”Creamed spinach color!”) and even pointed out every single flaw with the SNES (it was harder to program for than the Genesis, it had fewer games for it in 1992, etc.)
The result of all this aggressive competition?
Today, Sega has given up on the hardware business and is a Nintendo licensee.

The Wii is an attempt to gather the casual gamer audience which really had yet been untapped. These are the gamers that find those annoying flash games fun. They got that audience and now they’re enjoying. the benefits. However, all that aside, it’s a POS. The PS3 blows the Wii out of the water.

SNES’ Super Black Bass is the #1 fishing game I have ever played on any console. I have spent more hours on that than actual fishing this year thanks to a shoulder injury:’(
