Connecticut AG angry over Beer Pong

p2pnet news view | Games:-
attorney general Richard Blumenthal is angry over the former Beer Pong, a video game modelled on beirut, lob pong, and other names, as the Wikipedia describes it.

Players, “throw a table tennis ball across a table with the intent of landing the ball in one of several cups of beer on the other end,” it says.

When a ball lands in a cup, the defending team has to drink all the beer in the cup.

Blumenthal didn’t like the video game version and now the production company says it’ll, “remove all alcoholic references in its ‘Beer Pong’ game – including the name – that was unconscionably rated suitable for children as young as 13,” says the AG’s office.

But he’s not pleased with the industry friendly the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) because it rated the, “alcohol-laced game as suitable for young teens,” and refused to change it to Adult.

“In a letter to the ESRB, Blumenthal said the ‘Beer Pong’ [now Pong Toss] rating reveals the industry’s dangerous denial of the affects that alcohol depiction in video games might have on young teenagers,” says a statement, which adds Blumenthal, “called on the ESRB to immediately reform its rating system to address alcohol depiction in video games.”

The ESRB and JV Games, “both continue to deny that Beer Pong … glorified or promoted drinking of any kind,” says the Connecticut AG.

The issue is, “urgent because the ‘Frat Party Games’ promoted by JV Games may soon offer others in this planned series,” says Blumenthal.

  1. Reader's Write Says:

I don’t get the need of this game if there is no beer!

  2. Reader's Write Says:

Who actually looks at the ESRB rating anyways?

  3. Rekrul Says:

    Anyone remember Tapper/Root Beer Tapper?

  4. Reader's Write Says:

Tapper was a nice little game. I can still play the video emulation but it never persuaded me to drink more beer, since I don’t really ever drink it anyway.
