Bare Naked Ladies Page arrested on drug charges

p2pnet news view | Crime | Music:- Steven Jay Page, 38, lead singer with the Barenaked Ladies, has been arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance after US police, “stumbled upon a car parked across a driveway with its driver-side door open,” says the Canadian Press.
They tracked the license plate to an apartment in Fayetteville, New York, east of Syracus, where they found Page and 25-year-old Stephanie Ford in the kitchen, says the story, going on:
“In a statement to police filed with the court, Ford said the two had just finished snorting what she believed to be cocaine using a rolled-up Canadian bill.
“She said Page had stored several capsules containing a white powdery substance in a bottle labelled Calcium.”
According to CTV, Nettwerk Music boss Terry McBride, Page’s manager, said, “We cannot comment because the matter is before the courts. We are confident that our client, Stephen Page, will be completely exonerated, and until that time, it’s business as usual for the Barenaked Ladies.”
Page, released on bail of $10,000, is slated to appear in a New York court on August 26.
If convicted, he faces a maximum of 15 years in prison, says CTV.
Bare Naked Ladies were one of the first groups to sign up with the Canadian Music Creators Coalition which says it’s identified three simple principles to guide copyright reform and cultural policy:
(1) Suing our fans is destructive and hypocritical,
(2) Digital locks are risky and counterproductive, and
(3) Cultural policy should support actual Canadian artists.
Says a note on the BNL site »»»
Many of you have probably read or heard press accounts about Steven Page’s recent arrest in New York State.
Steven has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him and the validity of the charges against Steven will be strongly contested.
While this is happening, it’s business as usual for Barenaked Ladies. We will continue to perform and look forward to heading into the studio later this year to record a new album.
We want to thank our loyal fans for their continued support during this difficult time.
Stay tuned.

see, if you are not a knowledgeable fan…
.. you don’T know that the BNL guys name is PAGE and for the mere second of reading the headline without having the article open already you instinctively think:
Huh, How stupid are those canadians, “arresting” a website? How did they manage THAT one?
Seriously! I did

P.S. Is having a drivers side door open illegal nowadays?
and how naive is “Ford” to let police into her premisses without they have a search warrant?
“Good Morning Ma’m, the car xyz123 is that yours, may we come in for a second?”
“yes it is, sure come in”
“look Bill, the subjects are looking like they are high on drugs, lets search the room since we were invited in and have a probable cause now.”
What a stupid chick!
(alleged of course it was that way! [But in most cases police works that way with the naive ones.])

“a white powdery substance”
Quick get DHS involved! That was no drugs or calcium, That was anthrax! This CRIAA fighting/boycotting terrist was palnning an attack on the RIAA headquarter. It is so obvious. An artist that does not love to be represented by a RIAA member and does not condone what they are doing!
THAT can only be a terrist!
Gitmo for him it is, I say!

@ PPS
I thought of a header like that, but a lot of people wouldn’t have known what BNL meant.
Cheers!

they seem sensible with regard to music, but up to 15 years for cocaine use? That can’t be right. Here you wouldn’t even be questioned, let alone arrested.

That must be for parking across a driveway. That’s understandable and so annoying. They have to make an example of them.
