Quebec separatists vs Paul McCartney

p2pnet news view | Music:- There was a new battle on the Plains of Abraham, an, “historic 108 acre (44 ha) plateau within The Battlefields Park in Quebec City, Canada,” just outside the Citadelle of Quebec and the walls of Quebec City, as the Wikipedia describes it, going on:
“On 13 September 1759, the land was the scene of the Battle of the Plains of Abraham in the Seven Years’ War in which the British army, under General James Wolfe, climbed the steep cliff under the city in darkness, surprising and beating the French.”
The latest battle was also between the French and English, only this time it was a la Quebecoise singer Céline Dion, and UK Beatle Paul McCartney.
And it ended in a draw, says the Toronto Star.
The clash came when organisers were getting ready for Quebec City’s 400th anniversary party, featuring both stars.
“Dion’s manager-husband, René Angélil, had been upset her free concert Aug. 22 to celebrate Quebec City’s 400th anniversary was limited to 100,000 fans,” says the story, but, “McCartney’s July 20 open-air show can hold up to 200,000.
“Organizers couldn’t move Dion’s show but have made room for another 100,000 to keep Angélil happy.”
Not so pleased, however, are several prominent Quebec artists and sovereigntists who are accusing McCartney of “Canadianizing” the city’s 400th birthday celebration,” says the CBC, going on:
“A group of politicians and artists, including Parti Québécois culture critic Pierre Curzi and actress Pol Pelletier have lent their name to an open letter that denounces McCartney’s free July 20 concert on Quebec City’s Plains of Abraham.
“The open letter’s original author – artist Luc Archambault – writes that McCartney’s appearance misrepresents the spirit of the 400th anniversary celebrations, which commemorate the fight for the survival of the French language in North America.”
Archambault, “expresses his wish that McCartney would invite Quebec folk legend Gilles Vigneault up on stage Sunday night to sing Gens du Pays, Quebec’s unofficial anthem,” adds the story.

“Luc Archambault”… (nothing against him but) before his open letter, that guy was a “nobody” for most of us here in Québec. It seems that he got what he wanted: a free mediatic attention! Now we (people outside of Quebec’s province) know his name…
It’s only a minority of us that’s trying to get more visibility by making problems with McCartney’s concert so don’t pay too much attention to those people.
We are proud to welcome Sir Paul here for our 400 years anniversary of Québec city.

Anglophobic Quebec… Racism against English speakers is so common in Quebec – in fact it is the law! Bill 101 makes English Quebecers second-class citizens. When Blacks in Mississippi have to go to the back of the bus, use blacks only toilets and water fountains – it’s called bigotry. In Quebec, it is illegal to post a sign in English. If this is the treatment they reserve for Sir Paul, a living legend, a member of the world cultural heritage for all humanity – think about how the ordinary English speaker is treated.
