UK’s BPI goes Spamming
p2pnet.net News:- The UK’s British Phonographic Industry (BPI) says its, “campaign of sending instant messages to file-sharers is gathering pace”.
BPI chairman Peter Jamieson proudly boasts, “We have sent 175,000 instant message warnings to UK uploaders”.
And “gathering pace” implies there’s lots more to come.
In other words, Jamieson is sending Internet nessages to people who definitely haven’t asked for them, and who definitely don’t want them.
It’s called Spamming and it’s frowned upon in the UK.
UK bans spam messages, is a BBC News headline here, and it goes on:
“The UK has made spam a criminal offence to try to stop the flood of unsolicited messages.
“Under the new law, spammers could be fined £5,000 in a magistrates court or an unlimited penalty from a jury.”
UK Communications Minister Stephen Timms.is quoted as saying, “”It’s crucial that people feel safe and have confidence in utilising electronic communication technologies. These regulations will help combat the global nuisance of unsolicited e-mails and texts by enshrining in law rights that give consumers more say over who can use their personal details. “
Maybe someone should tell him about Jamieson and the BPI.
