RIAA sues John McCain: rumour
p2pnet news view RIAA News | Politics:- The RIAA has been ordered to subpoenae US presidential candidate John McCain on charges of copyright violation, say unconfirmed rumours.
McCain’s Obama video was “zapped from the campaign’s YouTube channel,” said Wired, going on:
“It’s not clear why the video was deleted, but there’s a good chance that the campaign’s use of Frankie Valli’s hit tune Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You had something to do with it. Licensing such hits is expensive, and the tune is frequently used in television commercials.”
Sadly, however, it seems McCain had neglected to pay Warner, legacy copyright owner of the tune.
In an update, “The Warner Music Group asserted its copyright claim against YouTube, which is the reason for the take-down,” says Wired, adding:
“McCain’s campaign has re-posted the video, sans Warner’s intellectual property. It’s ironic that a United States senator, who has been part of a body that has so repudiated the idea of fair-use, is feeling the repeated stings resulting from its own legislative history.”
Ironic indeed.
And it’ll be even more ironic if and when McCain joins the thousands of innocent Americans, including children, who, on the instructions of Vivendi Universal, EMI, Warner Music and Sony BMG, are accused by the RIAA of being illegal, “massive online distributors” of copyrighted music.
“We wish McCain well,” says RIAA spokesman Mitch Sherman, “and we wish Senator Obama well as well, but business is business and this is to prove to US citizens everywhere that we’re impartial in our ongoing search for truth and justice and will not hesitate to prosecute anyone, anywhere, if they seek to use corporate product without permission or without paying a fee, in the process threatening the American economy and everything that is American, including the American way of life.
“It’s part of our Tough Love policy.
“Never let it be said that we discriminate.”
Warner noss Edgar Bronfman jr last year admitted his children were file sharers.
However, “I explained to them what I believe is right, that the principle is that stealing music is stealing music,” he’s quoted as stating firmly.
“Frankly, right is right and wrong is wrong, particularly when a parent is talking to a child. A bright line around moral responsibility is very important. I can assure you they no longer do that.”
What did the ‘bright line’ involve?
“I think I`ll keep that within the family,” evaded Bronfman.

If true, we need to elect McCain. It would be good to have someone in power who hates the RIAA.

It is another p2pnet spoof. It is not true.

^^ Yes. I’m afraid you’re correct.
/sigh
If your name had been Andersen, Santangelo, Lindor, or so on, and had you not been a US politician, it would have been a very different story.
Literally.
Cheers!

“Itâs ironic that a United States senator, who has been part of a body that has so repudiated the idea of fair-use, is feeling the repeated stings resulting from its own legislative history.â
McCain won’t be sued, because he is an ally of the RIAA. They are only showing McCain a little “tough love” during election-time to get the “message” across to American citizens. This should hurt McCain’s election; as John McCain still openly supports the RIAA.
Then again… McCain complains that news agencies aren’t talking enough about him, and news agencies complain that he hasn’t done anything news worthy.
John McCain being sued, spied on, and bullied by the RIAA, while John McCain still openly supports lobbyists, like the RIAA, will definitely be news worthy.
