Google in trouble over Italian bullying video
p2pnet news view | Crime:- How did a video of teenagers bullying an autistic classmate turn up on the Google Italian site? – asked a p2pnet post in 2006, going on:
“Now two of the company’s employees are accused of failing to check on video’s content, says Reuters.”
However, the two employees have become four and Italian prosecutors have “indicated” they’ll press charges against them.
“Magistrates who have recently ended a two-year investigation into the incident claim that the airing of the 191-second clip, which showed the youths making fun of the teenager before hitting him over the head with a box of tissues, amounted to a breach of privacy and was defamatory,” says Times Online, going on:
“A Google spokesman said today that the company had co-operated fully with the Italian authorities and that it was ‘disappointed’ with the decision to send Google employees to trial.
“We believe that this proceeding is not about Google Video and what happened, but about the internet as we know it – an open and free environment,” the spokesman said.
The Italian investigation came after a group acting on behalf of people with Down’s syndrome was alerted to the video, says the story, adding:
“The four youths who filmed the incident are also reported to have faced criminal prosecution.”

hmmm…
Without the video as evidence the bullies MIGHT never had been caught and prosecuted.
Charges like this could easily discourage whistleblowers etc …
I wonder who’s REALLY pushing to charge google employess over this ?

That’s right, always shoot the messenger. Forget about the perpetrators.
