Google, Digg, on again off again deal

p2pnet news view | Products:- Google isn’t buying Digg.
Again.
TechCrunch reports that Do No Evil was on the verge of acquiring the site have once more turned out to be erroneous.
On March 8, “Normally our policy is to not comment about things like this, but this morning’s rumors about a bidding war involving Google and Microsoft have created such a stir we feel compelled to tell you all directly that they are completely inaccurate,” p2pnet quoted the company’s Jay Adelson as saying after TechCrunch had reported:
“Digg is prepared to take less than the $300 million Allen & Co. were floating late last year. Google, our [TechCrunch] source says, will likely bid $200-$225 million, which Digg would likely accept.”
Then on July 22, TechCrunch stated, “multiple sources inside and outside of Google” said the, “two companies have reportedly signed a letter of intent and are close to a deal that will bring Digg under the Google News property.”
The acquisition price was supposedly in the “$200 million range,”
Now, says TechCrunch, “Two sources close to the companies suggested that some issue that came up during technical due diligence was to blame. One source said that the issue was more personality driven, and that Google decided after spending more time with Digg’s top team that there just wasn’t a fit.
“Either way the deal appears to dead”.
Until the next time.
Could it be ’sources close to Google’ are usingTechCrunch as part of a weird oftening up process under which they’ll eventually announced the deal has, after all, been struck, but more in the $100.00 range?
