Jolie, Spears and Obama: Danger!

p2pnet news view | Security:- Angelina Jolie, Britney Spears and Barack Obama are keeping company with each other.

But not in a good way.

Their names are being used as part of a new malware distribution scheme aimed at tricking computer users into downloading and installing malicious applications.

“The malware distribution campaign is based on news fragments involving Angelina Jolie, Britney Spears and Barack Obama,” says BitDefender.

“The e-mail messages direct  unsuspecting users to a webpage that allegedly contains a video clip. However, upon visiting the compromised page, they are shown an imageimpersonating a video player, linking to a binary executable file.

To watch the clip, users are told to download an alleged update for Adobe’s Flash player, says the company, But the file is infected with Trojan.Downloader.Tibs.GZM, it says, adding:

“Additionally, the binary filestarts downloading automatically, a practice known as ‘drive-by download,’ and this should be enough of a warning for the user about the file’s legitimacy. When executed, the Trojan installs other pieces of malware, including the infamous Trojan.Peed.JPU, used on large scale in the Stormbotnet.”
