Bus rider Vince Li decapitated fellow passenger

p2pnet news view | Crime:- In one of Canada’s weirdest, and most grisly, murders, a man on a Greyhound bus on its way to Winnipeg calmly started stabbing 22-year-old Tim McLean, who was sleeping next to him, and then cut his head off.

Yesterday, the killer, Vince Weiguang Li (right), “stood in a Manitoba courtroom yesterday pleading for it all to end,” says the Globe and Mail.

” ‘Please kill me,’ he said quietly, in a court packed with journalists and members of the victim’s family.”

Before the murder Li, “wearing small black sunglasses, a green shirt and a hat” and looking, “perfectly put together, like a businessman,” spent the night sitting on a bench in Erickson, Manitoba, and in the morning, sold a brand new Acer 4200 to 15-year-old student  Darren Beatty for $50.

“He [Li] seemed really happy to get some money in his hand,” the story has Beatty saying.

It goes on »»»

Mr. Beatty brought the computer home, and, after returning to get the password from Mr. Li (it was 7777), he unwittingly opened a window on the world of a man who would soon become an accused killer.

He found more than 20 résumés, each tailored to a specific job application. One was for a police service, one for McDonald’s, one for Wal-Mart. He also found dozens of photos that he assumed were taken by Mr. Li, including several of a black military plane that he thought were taken by an amateur in mid-air. There were photos of a formal Chinese military parade, and others of Chinese models in clothes, and some of mountains in British Columbia.

A letter in Mandarin, translated with Google’s translator, seemed to be addressed to someone in China. It said he was happy to be free, living under beautiful, free skies, but that he felt guilty for leaving China, and that everything in Canada was not as he expected, Mr. Beatty said.

Li immigrated to Canada in 2001, says the Globe and Mail, continuing when he was arrested, he was carrying a plastic bag containing a human nose, ear and part of a mouth, believed to be McLean’s.

During the ensuing standoff, “RCMP officers heard him say, ‘I have to stay on the bus forever’,” says the Globe and Mail, adding:

“Greyhound has scrapped an ad campaign that extolled the peaceful, worry-free upside of bus travel …….”

Vince Weiguang Li, 40, is charged with second-degree murder and is scheduled to appear in court on September 8.

  1. Rekrul Says:

I read in another story, how the passengers and driver were considered “heroic” for holding the bus door closed and keeping him inside until the police arrived. Personally, I think it would have been more heroic for a bunch of them to grab him at the start of the attack and keep him from killing the guy.

  2. Ron Says:

There’s not enough room on the bus for a group of passengers to have collectively taken on the attacker. It would have been suicide for one person to try to take on the guy. He had already demonstrated how wacked out and vicious he was. They did the right thing getting everyone else out.

  3. Gooberoo Says:

    Rekrul:

Perhaps they had some sense as to how crazed he was. Hard to point fingers unless you’re in the situation. Have you ever been on a bus when someone pulls a knife and starts stabbing someone?

    I didn’t think so.

  4. Sally Says:

I heard there was a 4 hour stand off with the police. Li and McLean were the only ones on the bus at this point and McLean was dead. They should have stormed the bus immediately and blown him away if he flinched….saving us taxpayers millions of dollars that we will now have to pay for lawyers, trail, evaluations, and his home in an asylum for the next how ever many years.

  5. Reader's Write Says:

Why do all the crazy people ride greyhound?

  6. Reader's Write Says:

    Amen Rekrul.
I personally couldn’t sleep at night knowing that I may have been able to help the poor guy out, even if it meant that I may also die.
Our we Canadians turning into americans who just don’t give a dam about our fellow citizens?

  7. YouHaveToBeKidding Says:

Typical…a post about how the bus passengers should have taken him on, a post about how the police should have just blown him away and how that would save us all money.

    Here’s what happened:

A very sick man killed an innocent man in a horrific fashion acting out some psychotic fantasy.
An innocent man’s family will grieve the loss and relive the horror for the rest of their lives.
    Nobody is to blame.
    Judging is meaningless.
The passengers are not to blame.
The laws are not to blame.
The police are not to blame.
The man is not to blame. His sickness is, however, to blame.
Canadians are not to blame. We still care about each other, but perhaps won’t step in the way of knife wielding maniacs while witnessing 50+ thrusts of a knife at an innocent mans’ throat.
    There is no justice here.
    There are no explanations.
    Nothing makes this better.
    It will happen again.
Capital punishment will succeed at nothing here, but perhaps giving us a sense of power over random horror.
A lifelong sentence will accomplish nothing except keeping us safe from the man’s sickness.

    Period.

  8. Lauren Says:

I feel bad for the passengers having to witness that act of violence. Unless you are specially trained, I do not believe the mind can process quickly enough to save a mans life.

Vince and his “sickness” are one to me, I say he is completely to blame.

Reader’s Write: Please don’t be so ignorant as to assume what The American People’s camaraderie is. As you can see, no matter where you are human beings will simply be another animal in the jungle.

  9. Reader's Write Says:

    Second degree murder….hahahahahaha.

  10. Simple Says:

As expected, this man is being sent for psychiatric evaluation as he could be a paranoid schitzo…
Well I am betting he became this way due to some military experiment over in China. Bring forth some code word to bring forth the murderous personality and you have a gruesome story, in which all people now want increased securities on our trains and buses. Give up your freedoms for a little piece of mind and security. The CIA is famous for doing this to kidnapped children at Montaulk, New York. They are called MK Ultra kids…. John Lennon’s killer was a MK Ultra kid as well. Many other gruesome murders happen this way, so people will voluntarily hand over their weapons and beg for increased security from our governments. Total BS.

  11. JMT Says:

And this scum is ONLY charged w/ 2nd Degree Murder…it’s cases like this that CRY OUT for the death penalty but it won’t happen in Canada…unfortunately.

If someone had been on that bus w/ a concealed carry permit & the corresponding weapon they could have stopped him DEAD. The UK is also very anti-gun & GUESS WHAT they are having an EPIDEMIC of KNIFE murders & other violence.

Sally, IMO, they should NOT have stormed the bus…IMO knowing that McLean was already dead they should have shot up that bus (regardless of any flinching) until they were either sure Li was dead or until they ran out of ammo…no trial costs…no incarceration costs AND if he was dead that day then there would be a 100% degree of certainty that Li would NEVER MURDER anybody ever again. But nope, he didn’t get the DP that day & won’t in the future & COULD be a free man AGAIN one day when he’s “sane” & be free to MURDER AGAIN & if that happens THEN the CANADIAN GOVT WOULD BE TO BLAME EQUALLY ALONG w/ Li.

And FYI YouHaveToBeKidding, Li didn’t just KILL McLean he MURDERED HIM. Killing can be justified but murder can’t.

  12. Reader's Write Says:

“And this scum is ONLY charged w/ 2nd Degree Murder…it’s cases like this that CRY OUT for the death penalty but it won’t happen in Canada…unfortunately.”

You do realize the last person we ever sentenced to death was acquitted less than a year ago, yes?

“Killing can be justified but murder can’t.”

    What’s the difference?

  13. Molson Says:

for all you people that think he is a schitzo….I think you are wrong. This is a guy who obviously had a knife and a pair of scissors for a reason. He had them for a reason I totally think he is a phsychopath killler…..would not surprise me if he has killed before. Reports show that he has gotten on bus lines before for no apparent reason. I think he was planning this out all along and finally he saw a helpless man sitting at the back of the bus and he took his opportunity to fullfill his final masterpiece! Furthermore, if you suddenly saw a man hacking away with a knife at another passenger what would you do??

  14. ann Says:

this guy vince begs to be killed. Why he’s going to get a nice room 3meals a day , tv, exercise, cable tv and canada being so stupid he’ll probably get out one day. It’s just to much to take he murdered this kid, the bastard and he knew exactly what he was doing,he just didn’t care.. I hope he rots in hell for all eternity.

  15. Tracy Says:

This murder is the most horrific thing I have ever read about. It’s beyond belief!

For those who said the other passengers should have got the guy – passenger Caton said he wanted to and asked another passenger to help but the other guy fled off the bus. I would suspect, however, that by the time the passengers realised what was going on, and taking into account the amount of times Tim was stabbed, that he was probably dead by this time. Caton could not have done anything on his own.

Perhaps the other passengers didn’t feel they could have overpowered the guy. No one knows how they would react in such a situation. It’s fine saying – they should have got him – but it’s not as simple as that.

And as for the 2nd degree murder – why second degree??? I think it should have been 1st degree….

    1) Why would the guy be carrying a huge rambo knife and scissors if he wasn’t intending doing something with them?
    2) It seems to me that he ’selected’ his victim as he moved seats to sit next to Tim after the cigarette break.

I’m sorry, but it sounds pre-meditated to me!

Maybe I’m wrong, and maybe the guy was on drugs and halicinating or something?

I just hope it all comes out in the trial, so we can make some sense of this unthinkable killing!

  16. khesh Says:

I do realize that this had to be a terribly traumatic event for everyone on the bus, however, this seems to be an epidemic now days- people not getting involved. I was jumped on the Chicago Red line in broad daylight with a train packed with people when I was 16 by a man that kept betting me and proceeded to drag me off the train. This incident went on for 10 train stops about 20-30mins. The guy who did this definitely had some psychological things going on. The man proceeded to punch me in my face and stomach over and over again. He tried to rip my hands from the bar I was holding to. This event seemed like it was going on forever! Not one person tried to help me. I kept screaming please help me. I don’t know this guy… no one (not on person) helped. The train had to have at least 45 people on it that day. My point is that we feel no sense of responsibility to the collective consciousness of life. People just rather not get involved. This is the technical age. People seem to have less physical impulses now days. This is the modern design of mankind, to be passive and fearful, and this is why I don’t blame the people aboard that bus, or the people on my train.

My heart goes out to Mclean and his family. I can’t imagine the horror and grief everyone involved in this situation must feel.

  17. Mark Says:

I agree with one ^ that posted in regards to who Mr. Li was. He is mentally ill. He isn’t in the same realm as we all are.

Deporting him to China isn’t going to help give us some closure on why he committed this act.
It would’ve probably had more gore to it if the bus riders pulled hero as soon as they woke up from the sounds that sounded something between a baby crying and a dog barking real loud.

No one expected it to happen. But as from reading he was sitting at a bench for quite some time.

People like him need to have friends thrive to help them seek help before something he didn’t really want to happen occur.

Maybe to sum it all up.. Recent problems upon arriving here in Canada added all up to why he didn’t socialize much. Why he would seldomly discuss his personal life. It is really sad to see so much hate towards these type of situations. I myself would still ride a bus. I believe that there are still good people out there.

It even says by the way that his wife is shocked. And they are boggled and scrambling to find answers.

This by the way is an example on what a lot of new immigrants deal with upon moving here to Canada.

It is supposed to be the land of the free and oppurtunities. But We clearly see that he didn’t see Canada as what he (Li) expected. I bet he had a degree back home and he didn’t have a chance to use his skills he learnt from back home. Maybe he was a doctor back home. and Moving here to Canada they didn’t accept his degree. This opens up a whole new topic but I’m Just pointing out points stated by people I’ve talked to in the past years at work. People who were doctors, accountants back in their home country are doing what here ? they are janitors and working 7elevens. driving cabs. LIKE WTF This country seriously needs to have a definite make over.

What’s the business with USA accepting people and their degrees, recognizing what their hard earned education, but Canadian employers telling new immigrants that their education isn’t up to par w/ Canadian standards. I think it’s the damn government that has a problem here and IT’ is to blame for what Mr. Vince Li has done to this innocent young charismatic fellow that had no idea what he was on board for.

I hope that the government wakes and smells the coffee.

Put in their brochures. Like a legal letter such as below
    “”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"
Dear new immigrants or soon to be immigrants to canada

we do not accept education/degrees from the following Countries.
    Save yourself the grief
Please contact USA immigration office, they will hire you for what you have worked hard to earn (your degrees)
    “”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"
    PS.. RIP Tim.

    Condolensces for his family to
and to the passengers who were on board that Greyhound Bus headed to winnipeg july 31st. You guys are brave.
You guys had to what you had to do as a group and when you had to do it, you guys executed the right procedures.

I do know that this kind of event leaves a scar that possibly carry on with them for a very very long time.

    PEace

and almost forgot … if those wbc people are reading this. You guys have no right to judge and to protest what’s been happening here in canada. As God is my witness, it is a problem that does not concern you and you guys should just go cast away to a deserted island. :D

  18. From Ottawa Says:

    From the Calgary Herold:
“RCMP are still tight-lipped about reports from Li’s wife that he spent four days in an unidentified psychiatric facility.”

I want to know more about this facility and how recently he was in there.

    The facts are
    - Li was calmly stabbing ‘like a robot’
    - the movie ‘Mask of Zorro’ was broadcasting on multiple televisions
    - they had just recently made a stop. Did anyone else talk to Li?

    - Mind control is real and has been for almost 50 years.

The friends and family should be asking about this. It stinks of a Psyop and if that’s the case, then a lawsuit is in order.

    Tell us about this facility

  19. Reader's Write Says:

the man is fu@king crazy. he will get it in prison.

  20. tobin Says:

I don’t understand the connection you guys seem to make with America. “Don’t care about our fellow citizens like in America”… “trained by the CIA.” Man, if it rains, do you also blame America.? America is like every other country–there are good people and bad people there. Same as Canada.

Canada and Canadians would do well to concentrate on who they are and what they stand for. Constantly citing the tired “We’re not America” is no longer enough. You can’t define your identity simply by saying who you’re not.

Plenty of Americans care about their fellow citizens, as well as care (and love) Canadians. I’m one of them.
